  • Ingenious solution Svend! Maybe the BGE corporate will take notice if not you should send them the idea. You may see it on future production models.

P.S. I love the old Porsche Junior tractor of yours, have only seen a few still around and one Lamborghini

Thanks you liked my idea of spring on the BGE ..

    Porsche Junior.
I inherited it after my father in 1991. My father bought it as new in 1959.

The Porsche is almost like new, when he became ill that same year he bought it, and it has not been used since ...

I have to say I am a bit skeptical.

There are high tech, industrial bolting techniques that are similar to this, but I am not sure bent bolts are all that bad....

That said, to get the same amount of tension, with a spring, you would first have to measure the torque on the bolt at the point that it bent and was "tight enough" and then find a spring that was stiff enough to offer the same resistance.

After that, you would have to watch the spring to be sure that it was not relaxing with time and heat.

My thoughts, too. My large is 10 years old. It still has the same bent bolts that it had 10 years ago. When they bend, you know you are there. I'd want more explanation first rather than risk a dropped dome.

seems like the reason is simply because the bent bolt looks 'wrong', when in fact it's what you want to have happen.

brings to mind that inspecific yet wonderfully accurate old phrase in geotech, 'driven to refusal'
