• Lawn Ranger,
Did you cook the meatloaf in a deep, Pyrex pan, Mike? If so, was the flavor better than cooking it in an oven? (or aren't I supposed to ask that on the forum.) Did you cook around 350 degrees? I grew up eating meatloaf with catsup on the top and mashed potatoes; it's comfort food.[p]****

terrafirmay,
I don't know how the Lawn Ranger did his but I make mine up a day ahead of time. I put a piece of was paper in a pyrex meatloaf dish, I put the meatloaf mixture in and let it set-up overnight.
Next day I fire up Mr. Egg,to about 350,indirect using plate setter with drip pan, remove the meatloaf from the dish and set in right on the grill. Time of cook will depend on the meatloaf size.
Cheers,
New Bob

terrafirmay,
Look down a few posts till last night when I posted a pic before cooking. I cook indirect in one of those baskets with holes in it at around 350 for an hour or so. It's QBabes Recipe...here's the link.[p]Mike

• Lawn Ranger,
how you feelin buddy??? did the doc shake some sticks and bones at ya??? . ..like i said before ..Nyquil. ..and lots of it!! . .

• New Bob,
i, or should i say my meatloaf maker spawn, also puts the loaf directly on the grid, rather than in a pan. ...lets the fat drip away (lawn ranger's set up does the same thing). . . .and thanks to the ceramics, we never have a problem with moistness...

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]When the wife makes spawn's meatloaf, she too cooks it at grid level over direct flame. [p]She could make that about five times a week. I love that stuff.
• Mark Backer,
i might not have been clear. ..spawn does it on the grid, but over the indirect plate setter....i would think doing it over direct flame would basically give you a giant hamburger. . .heee[p]btw. . .good talking to you saturday, glad to see the flames weren't near the backer household .. ..

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]Good talking to you too. I was glad the fire wasn't at our house as well. I had my own fires to tend to, as my urchin and a neighbor boy simply refused to stop bolting into the road without looking to chase the air powered rockets we were shooting and landing across the road. [p]As for direct or indirect, now I'm gonna have to ask. [p]HOOOOONEYYYYY!

Lawn Ranger,
here's the meatloaf basket I use - it permits a full absorsion of smoke and keeps the loaf together at the same time when cooking direct. It measures 8.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 deep.

• RRP,
Where did you buy the basket? It's the first time I've seen one? Thanks.[p]****

terrafirmay,
that was a needle in the hatstack - went back thru old VISA statements three times - finally in scrutinizing I stopped on "TNT Landscaping - Iowa" and I thought what could that be and I found it!!! Page down for Brinkman Meatloaf pan $11.99.
This is also the place where I bought my "bear claws" for pulling pork - those suckers are wicked!!! For pulling just one butt they aren't worth the money IMHO.

Here's a better pix of those bear claws - iffin a guy was pulling several butts and in a hurry they would do the trick. They are extremely sharp - and clearly should not be substituted for back-scratchers!
