Friend has been asking me to go out on his boat. Yesterday I DID IT !! What a great time and beautiful weather. Always cooler on the water. We "buttered up" as my friend (captain) says to avoid sun burn.

Slow day on the water, according to the captain. He was disappointed, but I was thrilled with the weather and what I brought home, no matter the size.

I caught flounder, sea bass and grunt. I did not get a grouper (sigh).

We were roughly 10 miles out. Here we are at our farthest point from Anclote Key Park, where we set sail. See the white dot? Our boat ramp.

Here is what you saw (or didn't) in the first picture. The power plant

Cleaning the flounder. Flounder is an odd fish which at birth has
an eye on each side, but later one eye moves to other side and the
flounder then swims, instead of upright, one side down. The bottom is
white and the top (now with both eyes) is somewhat chameleon appearing
as the bottom of the gulf. This fish very thin........hard to filet. Flounder.jpg

Plated. The flounder lightly breaded gets a smoked, hot paprika drizzle. Sea bass in butter dill & capers. Grunt I suspected was awful tasting. Very fishy. So I made a Tortuga rum sauce, which turned out pretty well. Tortuga rum is strong !!

I just scale, gut and behead the flounder then bake them in a tomato and shallot sauce wrapped in foil. Haven't done it on the egg yet but it out to be the same.

Looks like a great meal! I am a fan of Catch 'n Skillet myself, much tastier than catch 'n release, and then going to the grocery store! I have wade fished in the ocean, but haven't been out in a boat. Looking forward to it sometime.

wow... that flounder is small. Don't they have size limits down there for the ones you can keep? Up here it has to be at least 18 inches to keep. Get caught killing a small one like that it is I think $200 per fish.

Not ragging on what you caught. I can not tell you how many I caught that size or smaller....
