Last Cook on the poor boy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, kids, I’ve cooked my last meal on the poor boy water smoker. I did some ABT's and some pork loins for lunch today. They turned out pretty good. But, I’m sure it’s going to be soooo much better when I get my egg at the Florida Eggfest. [p]Question: Does anyone still remember the first meal they cooked on a new egg. "Not counting Eggfest, I mean first meal after getting it home." I'm thinking about doing steaks, just because I really got to impress the wife, so I can justify the purchase. :-)

Locolongball,[p] My first cook was spatchcocked chicken. My wife was sold at the first bite. She has said several times to several different people that she is very glad she let me buy the egg.[p]John

Locolongball,[p]my first cook was two new york strips about 15 months 14 days and give or take a couple hours from now. Besides that i do recall Suz and i both turning and looking into each others eyes after that first bite and saying "thats my egg", "OH NO ITS NOT, IT'S MY EGG", "I SAW IT FIRST ITS MINE",....[p]Scott

    Souldaddy,
Explain to me what Ahi is? Never even heard the word. Maybe it is a midwest thing.[p]Thanks,[p]Mike

Ahi is tuna.[p]I get them at Costco, pre-cut into steaks (about 1.25" thick). About an hour prior to cooking, I'll rub them with olive oil and dust on a rub of equal portions of granulated garlic, black pepper, and dehydrated flaked onion.[p]Then you basicly sear it on both sides, and only cook it to medium rare (at the very most).[p]VERY good stuff.[p]-Ryan

Souldaddy,[p]Thanks, but you went confusing me with those fancy words. I have gotten tuna and did the same. I guess medium rare is the best.
I love Mahi Mahi, ever tried that? [p]Mike

    Souldaddy,
I haven't seen those at Costco yet in Atlanta. My wife loves Ahi tuna. And you are right, medium rare at the most. Just really need it seared. Tender as can be!!![p]I'll have to make a Costco run now.

We've had Ahi at our Costco (off and on) for several years now. I'd bet if you ask the butchers, they'd start stocking some.

Bryan,[p]Our first cook was a beer butt chicken, although we both now prefer to spatch them, so I'd recommend that. It's pretty easy, incredibly moist and tender, and will be the best chicken she's ever had. [p]Steaks are truly incredible too, but you could scare the dickens out of her if you wind up having your first flashback on your first cook. It will happen sooner or later, but it will be less traumatic if it's NOT the first cook, LOL![p]Looking forward to meeting both of you next weekend!

  • Locolongball,
without having read any real instrucctions i did a couple of split whole chickens (more or less spatchcocked) and a marinated flank steak .. .. everyone's eyes just rolled to the heavens, it was so much better tasting than anything i'd cooked on my weber. ..[p]welcome aboard!!!!
