wood logs in the egg

Anybody ever cook with small logs in the egg? My concern would be the intensity of the heat. Thoughts?

It doesn't really work. I've done it. If you cook with the lid closed the logs will either make incredible amounts of smoke and creosote at low temps, or they will ignite at higher temps and you'll have a very very hot fire. I nearly was unable to get the daisy wheel off my Egg afterwards, the creosote was so bad. If you want to "cook with wood" I'd suggest trying the way they do it in real pits, burn the wood down to coals and then add the coals to the cooker. The Naked Whiz

Why?

Wood burns at a lower temp than charcoal
You can't control a wood fire very well. Charcoal burns at a relatively fixed temp, it's just the size of the fire that changes (to oversimplify).

just let it burn down to coals...... if you cook on it too soon.... you get a creosote flavor........ no different than cooking on a campfire,,,,,,,,

long way to go, though
even then, the coals aren't (quite) the same as the coals in yer egg. plus all the ash to get there...ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante
