Now that I have your attention...[p]Picked up a beer butt chicken gizmo at Lowes on Saturday. It's a stainless steel affair that includes a perforated pan surrounding the cone just right for holding the veggies. We did a small chicken with some cool Russian fingerling potatoes, carrots, celery and onions...[p]Darned good. [p]RE

randomegger,
You got me motivated. A while back I bought a Norpro stainless chicken roaster with infuser for duck and small turkey. It's about 9" tall for a larger bird. Haven't used it yet but it looks like it will get the job done.[p]Speaking of beer I'm pumped up for Irish day so I'm trying out a new recipe for rye beer bread. Looking for a great sandwich made with corned beef. It's sunny and 11 degrees out this morning so I'll fire up the egg a little early.

Clay Q,
is it an irish soda bread recipe with rye style bread
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
fishlessman,
No. My wife is the expert soda bread maker. She makes it with Irish whisky, currants and orange zest. I'm making a yeast bread with two bottles of beer in it. Im fortunate to have numerous micro breweries in the state offering world class beer. One of my favorite brewer, New Glarus Brewing Co., has a winter beer called Black Wheat that is bottle conditioned. It's made with wheat, oats, rye and finished with malted barley. The foam on this beer is lip smacking good. Pours deep black. Seems to be a natural for making bread. I'll post how the bread turns out.

fishlessman,
I know what you mean! And this forum! I gotta get back to work and make the other kind of bread. LOL..... Anyway, I pulled the last loaf off and they look real nice. I cant put into words how good it is to smell baked bread. Just thinking....Guinness would be perfect for beer bread!

fishlessman,[p]I have a packet of soda bread mix I picked up at the Whole Foods store (no, I did not see Alton there) - might be a fun thing to break my pizza stone in on for St. Pat's day. Thanks for the idea![p]RE
