Well, about to get my first egg. What are the "must haves"?

Going to head down and pick up a Large Egg this afternoon. Guess I'll be forever labeled an egger now, lol.[p]Besides a plate setter, what are some other "must haves" that I should get with this thing? I've already got a pizza stone, and I guess a "nest" comes with it.[p]I blame this purchase on DrBBQ and Nature Boy. lol[p]Ryan Solin

    Ryan,
I'd get a raised grid and some Dizzy Pig rubs 1st. After I had the egg a month or so, then I'd spring for a BBQ Guru. It's not a must have, but I sleep a lot better with it running the egg when I'm doing an all nighter! And don't forget the Lawn Ranger BBQ tools. And a Lodge cast iron dutch over. And a remote thermometer.....Dang! I just get giddy about the thought of outfitting a brand new egg! Ryan, "You've only just begun...." Welcome to the community![p]Jimbo

    Ryan,
Typically a nest doesn't "come with it" that's a separate purchase. As for the stone you already have if it's a Pampered Chef for instance most eggers say they will break so why not get a BGE stone made of the same ceramic as your BGE. Of course then do you already own a pizza peel?

    Ryan,
Get a thermapen, I just got one last week. This thing is wonderful. It only takes 3 or 4 seconds to read the internal temp of any meat or liquid. The point is so small that you will not loose the juices of you favorite steak, fish, or chicken.

Get some Wicked Good lump too.

The store that I'm getting it from is selling it with a nest.[p]Dunno what type of stone that I have. If it breaks then I'll buck up and get the BGE stone.[p]Yup, have a peel. Though I saw the post below on the "super peel", and that looks like a must have.

lol, I know what you mean about "only just begun.....". I've got a couple of WSM's, a Klose Mobile, and a few other goodies. So there's no shortage bbq stuff laying around.[p]I (literally) have a whole shelf full of Dizzy Pig spices. Great stuff![p]Have a couple of Thermapens. No remote thermo's, as I've never found one that was worth anything (the Thermapens will spoil a person, quick).[p]I "think" I'll just be using my BGE for higher temp cooking, but who knows. So a Guru probably will wait for a bit.[p]I've been avoiding the Lodge website for some time now. Don't want to deal with having to take out a second mortgage when their whole product line mysteriously gets delivered via UPS, lol.

    Ryan,
    Ash remover and grid lifter.

  • If you don't already have a work area or table close by I would recommend a set of wings. I don't know how I managed before I got mine.

Ryan,[p]looks like your not new to Q, like a lot of us were when we got our first egg. prolly the first thing i would do is leave the nest with the dealer and invest in a good table!!! you may use the egg for a lot more than you think and MAN i wouldn't trade my table for nuttin...[p]Scott
