Question for the casual Egg user to push me off the fence

Nature Boy,
is it a myth ????........ I think NOT[p]3 months ago I did a side by side comparison using 10 Prime Grade 16 0z. Rib -eyes.
I had a char broiler grill that cooks at 600-800 degrees and a new grill that cooks at 1600 (plus) degrees.
2 for rare, 2 for med-rare, so on
There was quite a noticeable difference of moisture in the meat with the ones grilled at 1600 degrees as opposed to 800 degress. The med-well and well dones were not cooked at 1600 but rather at 600-700 degrees so as not to burn them before being done. But my answer and I stand to be corrected is that its not a myth.
As for as flavor we both know anything that becomes carmelized will have flavor.HTH

sigmore, woodworker... my error

Howard,
I am more of the casual user. I normally have to fire it up a day or two prior to using it to burn off mold. With work/kids/life I just don't have the time to cook on it like I would like. I would not however trade it for a gas grill or webber or any other such foolishness.

Howard,
We here in Eggland all love our eggs. LOL[p]I bought my large, daisy wheel top, grid gripper, ash tool, thermometer and 1 or 2 bags of BGE lump about 2 1/2 years ago for about $650. I understand a lot of places sell the egg with some of the things included, when I got mine at Barbeque Galores it was all a' la carte.[p]Later I was looking for a small but being in the southwest at the time no one carried it and the shipping from Atlanta was as much at the egg. soooo, no deal. I kept calling BBQ galores just to see if anyone might have one in the storage area, no said one dealer but I have a medium on sale, $ 299 for the egg and auto lock band, sold I said and gave him my cc number and name so I could pick it up the next day. I added a thermometer but nothing else as I could use my other stuff. Note: I have not had very good luck with BGE thermometers, get a tel tru if you decide on the egg. (link included. I hope)[p]Later I did order a mini for $130 plus $50 for shipping. (I also had a platesetter shipped at the same time for my medium) This year I purchased a daisy wheel top, SS vent and a newer hinge for my mini, I didn't need it, just wanted to make her the best she could be. (additional cost here was about $ 100 I think with the shipping) LOL[p]So for about $1200 or a little bit more I have the 3 of em. I have spent additional on polders, guru, extended and platesetter but did not have to. Some are mainly toys and others really make Egg-en more fun.[p]Keep in mind I'm a single guy so one could have done me just fine.[p]Good Luck and stop in regardless of what you buy,[p]New Bob

thirdeye, good information here, great post !!! [p]one other thing that no body has mentioned and i think something worth noting. when using high heat at the begining of the cook it will start to draw moisture to the surface, where do we think this moisture goes ? does it settle back down into the meat or does it evaporate off the surface being lost forever ?[p]reg

Howard,
Good Grief Man, Go ahead and fall. What are you waiting for? Just think of all the good stuff you are missing out on. Go ahead, do it. Time is wasting. There is life to be lived. Just do it.

Bro, pull the trigger. Get to know your butcher.[p]Next season your ski gear will be geek gear. Next year your egg will be seasoned and the same product that new eggers are buying. [p]If you have purchased a sweet woodworking tool like a Bosch router or a great compound miter saw, you understand the value of getting a quality tool. That's the BGE. It's a no brainer.

Scott - that was a kick-butt answer! As an avid egger and as a serious wood worker I agree that IF you are really committed to your passion you should buy the best "tool" you can afford each time.
Not bragging, but I have a Delta based wood working shop equipment I'm pretty d*mned proud of...and as Johnny Cash said "I got it one piece at a time."!!! Like I have said here before... GO for it, life isn't a dress hearsal!!!
