tuna steaks
Can anyone help with how to cook tuna steaks on the BGE? I just got my BGE and have done chicken twice with excellent results. My wife doesnt eat red meat, and i want a steak tonight, so i was hoping that i could sear the filet and the tuna somewhat at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

btravis,[p]I typically cook tuna and steaks the same way. I use tuna steaks that are pretty thick. Granted they dont take quite as long as the steaks but I cook them fast and hot. I like mine with just some lemon pepper and salt on them then cooked quickly over a very hot fire. This gives a nice crust to the outside while the inside is still nice and rare. If you want them done more on the inside then leave them on the fire a bit longer for more well done. I think about 3-4 minutes a side for medium tuna is about what it takes, again, depending on thickness. This will work for 1 1/2" thick tuna steaks.[p]Good luck, I prefer fish over beef if I had my choice. Your wife has good taste. If she likes fish then tuna on the egg is a real treat.[p]Troy

thanks for the great info - what temp do you sear the tuna? i promised my wife that if she will eat red meat, then i will eat more fish. i think the BGE will make either tasty

I think Sprinter means real hot. Hot like you would sear a steak. All the charcoal burning red kinda hot. 700 or higher if you are watchin the thermometer.[p]The most important thing is to be able to have enough heat to get a good sear before you overcook an easily overcooked piece of meat.[p]Enjoy!

Thanks Chris, work has gotten the best of me today and I've not been able to check back on the things that I've posted. Mucho appreciado on the follow up. You are exactly right, 6-700 degrees on the sear usually does the trick just fine. Have a great one.[p]Troy
