Large Egg To Big For Camping

Hi All,[p] I am thinking of getting a BGE and after reading some, everyone seems to agree that a large is the way to go. I wish to use this for camping as well as home for family of 3. Having an only child means having lots of kids on camping trips that don't belong to me. Is the large to much for caring camping we have a pop-up, or will I be alright with this size. Thanks in advance for any help. Mark

Mark,[p]it's way to large for camping, unless you are a sumo size. the risk of breaking or dropping just isn't worth the risk. get the large with a nice table and leave it there. After a while learning how to cook with it then consider a small if you think you want to take it camping. But it sounds like you would be better suited to use existing campsites with firepits or get a portable grill considering how many you are cooking for.[p]Scott

  • Mark, The large weighs about 150 lbs. For camping most would use a small egg at about 65 lbs. Once you try the Egged food you will certainly want one of each...The small can do everything the large can do, just less of it AND it will be too small for a turkey or a brisket. You will want to be able to do those....Start with a large and next month get a small for camping!

    <p />Mark,
start with the lg, after lugging it camping one time, you then will have the excuse and blessing from the little lady. Excuse = my back is hurting, blessing = best food she's ever tasted. this was my stategy and as you can see, it worked great. I need some advice on how to get the mini home! (small in the photo )

    Mark,
I've used the large and the small. The large is relly too big to cart around. The small is just right. You will be surprized hou much you can do on the small. Last year I did teo Pork butts overnight and fed about 16 people. I agree you should get the large and learn to use it and then spring for the small. I frequently use both at home.

  • Mark,
I have 2 small girls (5&2) and have a medium. I started with the medium and love it. I feel the medium is too much to lug camping and am saving pennies for a small to pack.[p]The medium does fine for what we cook (chicken, ribs, pizza, pulled pork, roast beef, ABT's, beef jerky, etc.). The medium cooks plenty of feed for the 4 of us, and if I pack the grid, I can feed the neighbors, too![p]Banker John
