I was wondering the best way to smoke a ham on the egg, never tried and want to on Saturday. Any advice?

  • JEDIKNIGHT,
I cooked a ham for New Year's Day in my BGE--cooked it exactly like the directions on the ham for cooking it in the oven EXCEPT it was NOT covered (I wanted the smoke flavor). (I think it was at 325 degrees or something like that).
My family said it was the BEST ham they had ever eaten![p]I can only imagine how good a "low & slow" would be![p]May the smoke be with you.

    JEDIKNIGHT,
I have never done a ham, so I cannot offer direct advice. There are, however, two recipes on this site. Go to recipes/new recipe submissions.[p]Now pay attention, here, cause things work a bit funny. DO NOT click on PORK. Once you are at the page with new recipies running down it, just page down until you find the Pork section. There are two recipes for ham. For some reason if you click on the Pork link, they don't show up (nor do a bunch of others.)[p]Good luck with your piggy.

  • Sorry--I forgot the setup.
Used the plate setter- ham on roasting rack in drip pan. Polder in place for internal temp.
Scored ham, cloves, & Pepsi Cola over it (some in drip pan).[p]BUT cooked temp/time like oven directions

  • JEDIKNIGHT,

  • here are a couple of pics of the dr. chicken's ham.. .i will say that this one did not include the injected marinade, but it was still great, just heavily smoked per dr. chicken, and covered with his glaze which is outstanding. . ..those that do it though say the injection really makes it outstanding, so you should give it a try as well. . .i've served this at office functions to absolute raves.. .. mad max beyond eggdome,
I'll chime right in there about how good it is - you really owe it to yourself though to do the whole thing - injected marinade and the glaze - you think it got raves before wait until you serve up the ham Dave recipe delivers. BTW anybody heard from that rascal, Dr Chicken lately? I'd really like to get in touch with him! I'm dead serious, I need to contact him or he can contact me.

  • RRP,
i know .. . i've promised dave that i would do the injection, and i promise.. ..one of these days i will. ..that's why i always say that while i haven't, folks trying it should. .. .i'll get there eventually. ..
