Mysterious Closing of Daisy Wheel and Vent
The other night, while cooking some dinner, pork loin I believe, I had the egg chugging away at about 400 F, the smoke plume was intense, wafting into the sub-zero PA winter night. After checking the food, I closed the lid, then adjusted the air flow a bit. The daisy wheel was in the open position and cocked to one side about 50% of the way, and the lower vent was about 40% open. Turning away, I looked back and checked again (yes they were open) then walked into the house. Just a few minutes later I went back to the egg and was surprised to find the daisy wheel closed, and it was no longer cocked to one side, it was centered on the vent. I know I had double-checked it after closing, and it was open. The lower vent was still open. In the words of Dave Berry, I am not making this up!![p]Hmmmm, could it be a long lost BGE enthusiast’s ghost coming to haunt me? Has anyone else experienced this strange behavior of their daisy wheels and vent? After readjusting the vents I decided to take a few photographs that night, mostly to show the amazing amount of smoke I was generating, but as I did, the lens caught something quite strange…..which might explain the mysterious closing vent. [p][p]Egged in PA[p]PS the story about the vent is true, does anyone know why this might have happened?

Egged in PA, Sweet pic. I figure that's what my ghost will be doing at night when I kick it, and it will be on a bonefish flat during the day![p]The Whiz link below gives the logic on setting the wheel so it doesnt close when you open it. You may have opened it again to take a peek after you set it, or maybe that ghost is messing with you. If he was a "bad" ghost, he would have openedbothe the top and bottome vents wide open, and turned your dinner into lump.[p]Scott

Egged in PA,
You actually never checked it after you opened the egg the last time. I'm sure of this. :-)[p]Cool picture. That one would have been a top runner in the forum photo contest. Actually, you should save it til next January, as I think Woo is doing the contest again![p]Very cool.

I swear I checked it after turning away......also I did read the FAQ about keeping the dual function wheel from moving when opening, I figured that out my first day with the egg.[p]This is a mystery, I was totally sure I checked it...[p]
thanks to all for the links, advice and fun...

Egged in PA,[p]Ok, the next obvious question is - how old are you? Never mind. I can tell by looking at the pic you're at about "that age". hheeeee

Egged in PA,
I think I hear Chris Carter whistling in the background... Did you see a drop-dead gorgeous redhead wandering through the smoke with a flashlight?

Car Wash Mike,
That poor dear MollyShark looses a lot of things not because she's old but because she like to imbibe in a little grape in the late afternoon. ;>)
