was nervous a few crossings, felt the rear tires drop twice bouncing up with everything flying, was watching for open water marks near the cracks but the foot of snow we had saturday hid it all, hard to miss the ridges though. we were in 150/200 foot water were the crossings took place, dont want to even think how we could get a wheeler out

    Cool! Glad your Dad's OK.

I went to boarding school on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee for a few years and we would scrounge up a couple broken hockey sticks and a sheet from the linen service and make a simple sail. We would skip out of the dorm after lights out and put our skates on and go sailing by moonlight, daylight on the weekends if we could get away with it. There was always good air but we had to keep our eyes peeled at night for the pressure ridges, particularly between the islands. They could get to 4' or more and were nasty to sail into at a high rate of speed. You do that once and you learn very fast to keep an eye open for them. Great photo, tanks for the memories. :)

    Great Pic. ;)
About 40 years ago I went fishing a lot with my dad. We lived in Milwaukee, Wi. and went fishing north of there a lot. I remember going with them ice fishing and taking snowmobiles on frozen lakes...you could drive your car or truck on the lake and they even plowed snow on the lake to make roads. I never forget those times. ;)

I thought it was scary enough flying along on skates after dark. Even on a cloudy day the darn ridges don't show until it's to late.

Hahahaha, gotta keep an eye on those shanties, their sneaky little rascals! LOL, never had any encounters of the shanty kind while on skates. Now that must be embarrassing!!! I bet the guy that encountered the shanty won't be showing his face in town for coffee for a while! Was he from Massachusetts? There still learning how to drive down there I hear, or is it that they just forget how when they get down here?.

I've always thought those guys were nuts....even in the woods doing a buck ten, if you hit a down tree or something you are done....

Hahahahaha, I guess there aren't many boarding schools right on the lake. Yes, Brewster Academy. Our dorm had lake front property and now has to be worth in the millions! We were lucky to have at least one winter where the ice was fantastic. I was skating one day and a small plane came down and landed not far from me and let a couple young kids out with their skates already on. They skated for a while and the plane came back and picked them up again. I always thought that was pretty cool. We didn't get to see much TV while there and had to entertain our selves when we had free time. I picked apples one year for one of the teachers at Brewster for exclusive fishing rights to his family farm pond. It was a great deal, he thought the pond probably hadn't been fished in about 100 years. It had been in his family for longer then that and was full of white bass, sunfish and blue gills and it was only about 3 or 4 apple trees. I also attended a pre prep school in Exeter, N.H. called Emerson.

I still think New Hampshire is about as pretty as it gets. Between the White Mountains and the Lakes Region it is hard to beat. I climbed telephone poles in Berlin, N.H. one summer and camped out in Shelburn, N.H. just down the road. It was spectacular!

Did you go to Brewster also Bob?
