Looks great! I have been wanting to make French Onion for a couple of weeks since I saw an episode of America's Test Kitchen on it. Their French secret was creating a fond on the bottom of the pan or caramelized onions and then deglazing and repeating 5-6 times. It looked so go I wanted to eat my television which would have undoubtedly have had much less flavor.

Great idea Faith. Im always doing short ribs. Don't see why they wouldn't work. Have to book mark this when I get home.

I made that for dinner Tuesday and used Marsala instead of the red wine. Got sticker shock at the cash register when I found out gruyere cheese was $20 lb. Fantastic soup! -RP

Faith, I can only imagine how delicious the onion soup must have tasted with those beef bones!
And you just thought you didn't like ribs with bones.   -
I have done that a couple of times and I agree it is great!

Another good reason to make some beef ribs....well maybe not. I'm a big more cavemanish and would need to gnaw on the bones
My wife made some a while back on the stove. Sent me out for consume. Heard of it but never noticed it int he store. Made some kick but french onion soup though! -
Randy, wow, tht is $$$$. Cheese has really gotten expensive. I bought smoked swiss to use, but tried the mozzarella, parmesan and it worked nicely with the soup.Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

Shane, I remember the FOS you made with the 5 different kinds of onions. I used sweet onions only. You gotta try the beef bone broth next time!Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!
