Several people asked about the set up for the bamboo steamer a few posts back so I put this together tonight when I did the vegetables for those that are interested...Keep On Eggin'

Nice post, I have found that the wok without the long handle allows me to close the BGE and appears more heat efficient.

Probably, but I burned a steamer and almost fried a wok once doing that...I typically don't walk (bad use of words here) away when I have the wok on, the water evaporates so rapidly.

Also, I tried the ring and wok thing and the heat around the edges was a great distraction and discomfort. I prefer the handle to hold on to when Woking or Stir Frying as well so I only have the one wok now, sold off my ring.

I also almost NEVER close my lid unless I'm baking or doing a longer cook, uses extra lump but I like to observe what's going on, just my preference.

    Thanks again, Keep On Eggin'

Stir fry, always the wok on the egg because of the high heat. But if I'm steaming, I just use the stove top and a 10" fry pan (or flat bottomed wok) with the bamboo steamer. Not worth cranking up the egg to steam something. To me anyway. Sorta like pancakes or eggs on the egg. More trouble than it's worth.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I agree about firing up the egg, however, I refuse to cook in our kitchen. Its why I own an egg.

In fact my goal is to ALWAYS cook my entire meal on the Egg without intervention from stoves, ovens, microwaves, et al whenever humanly possible, the single exception is potatoes, I almost always cook my baked potatoes in the micowave. Other than that, not.

So i don't just fire it up to steam vegetables, it's just one of a number of things that get cooked during the evening to support the entree, tonight it was cedar planked salmon.

And, since I cook a LOT on high heat, the vegetables can start steaming while the egg comes up to temp and when they are done, the egg is in the trexin' range for me steaks, etc.

Your official "Hardcore Egghead" card is in the mail!!

Me? If I think it'll make something taste better, I'll use the egg. If I think it makes no difference, I probably won't. Unless it's hot from whatever I was already cooking.

As for baked potatoes, I used to always nuke 'em. Lately, I have tried them on the egg and in the oven. I don't really notice much difference between the egg and oven - but both are definitely better than the microwave. Yes it takes longer, but they are better!
