Can't get it hot anymore

edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
Bought the egg over a year ago. i would load it, light with the chip ignitor things and in about 30-40 minutes it would zoom up to 700 degrees. now i absolutely cannot get it to heat up. it goes up to about 300-400 degrees and just stalls out. i have to take most food off of it and microwave it. i think the holes in the bottom are clear. anybody have any suggestions. i have basically stopped using it.

Steve Dickson,[p]The main causes for not heating right are:[p]1) firebox hole not properly aligned with bottom vent hole.
    2) poor circulation around firebox.
    3) not enough fuel.[p]I recommend carefully taking out the fire ring and firebox. My guess is that you've got a lot of ash around the outside of the firebox. Scoop that out, then carefully re-place the firebox inside the egg, making sure the big opening at the bottom of the firebox is aligned well with the bottom vent hole. Then, put the fire ring back in, put in your grate, fill the firebox to about an inch above the holes in the firebox and light that bad boy. [p]My guess is you'll be back cooking in no time.[p]If not, please ship the egg and all accessories to me. I will be happy to pay the freight... LOL[p]Seriously, hope this helps. Let us know if it doesn't.

  • You might also check your thermometer. Sometimes the adjustment gets off on them and they need to be recalibrated.

    Steve Dickson,
After checking and cleaning as others have suggested be sure to try a fresh bag of lump, I had that problem and I changed my lump brand and it shot up with no problem.[p]Good Luck and keep trying, no good not to use your egg.[p]Cheers,
