Local grocery store has 50% off Eye Rounds, Sirloin Tip, Bottom Round and Chuck. Which would be the best on the egg and how would you cook it????

    ShortRib,[p]Eye of round-pit beef.
    See Mad Max recipe[p]Sirloin tip-shis-ka-bobs.
Pineapple juice/teryiaki sauce with mushrooms, shrimp, other goodies you like, on a skew. 400 direct.[p]Bottom round-beef jerky.
    1 cup soy sauce
    1/2 cup maple syrup
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    tsp garlic powder
    tsp onion powder
    1 1/2 tbs Cowlick rub
1/2 tbs or less cayenne pepper[p]Slice thin mix ingredients, marinade overnight, cook low (175-190) for about 6 - 8 hours indirect.
    The start.

Chuck-spend your money on the other 3.
I just not a big fan of chuck roasts.[p]CWM

    ShortRib,
That's a pretty good sale. Worst case, buy some and put in the freezer for another date. Hell, I guess you could just put them outside??? HA HA

ShortRib,[p]I would probably vote for the sirloin if it is thick enough.[p]

Car Wash Mike,[p]I guess he could always ask the butcher to grind the chuck into hamburger (?) Just trying to think what to do with chuck roast.[p]Mac
  • Mac in NC ,[p]A good chuck will make you wonder why you ever fussed over brisket.[p]Clausen

    James,
How thick do you think is "enough?" And what would you do with it?

Car Wash Mike,[p]I like the idea of kabobs for sirloin. I think Jerky might be too much work. Pit beef peeks my interest, but I need to read up more about it.[p]Thanks for your ideas...
  • Wardster,
I had 2 beautiful fresh frozen Porterhouses (outside, here on the Tundra) up on top of my cabinet/ egg cart..... when I came home from work tonight all I could see was pieces of the red styrofoam container all over my deck. Some neighborhood dog had a feast of 2 frozen Porterhouse's.... all he left was styrofoam, plastic wrap (w/the price tag intact) and a little bit of 1 bone.[p]There's only one person to blame..... There just wasn't enough freezer space, and I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I'm in a residential neighborhood with leash laws and nothing running loose (at least I thought) [p]Mike in MN
