Well, will the fourth time be the charm? Getting ready for the big party on Sunday. I have a Large egg and I want to do a Brisket and pulled pork. Only trouble is the forcast is snow, and maybe a lot of snow...sorry ATL fans (although I did hear MVick was clocked at 4.795 in the 40 while wearing snow shoes). Anyway back to MY problem...anyone have any advise on Eggin in a snow storm? Can it be done? Dare I try? Mind you I have no fancy tools to control the temp. I will be using my new raised gill extender (you know smaller grill with legs rising above the original grate) with new pizza stone underneath (on the original grate)for the first time also - will this give me an indirect effect? Dam I am needed this morning!

jerseymatt,
don't do anything different[p]the egg has no idea whether it is snowing or not.
mine went overnight in a snowstorm which gave us 30 inches. snow melted all around it.
no temp issues, not cracking issues, no anything issues.[p]she loves the cold.[p]as for the eagles, we'll see you at the superbowl, when the patriots will let you guys score a bit just to keep it interesting, on their way to their third championship... (he said, tempting fate!)

• jerseymatt,
Since you are not routing for the Steelers, I'll speak from my experience.
Last weekend I cooked a pork shoulder over night for 21 hours. The outdoor temp was 50-75 degrees lower than any other of my long cooks. I found that by setting the egg at my normal air vent and daisy wheel settings to get 230 dome temp, which is 3/16" open on the vent and the daisy wheel covering the top of the egg and rotating the wheel so it was showing only 1/2 of the little holes. My dome temp would only reach 190-195 in the colder weather. I had to open the bottom vent to 3/8" and rotate the wheel so all of the little holes were wide open. Then my large BGE dome temp rose to 235.
So yes from "MY" experience in much lower ambient temps, I had to make a slight adjustment. Don't worry so much, just do what you normally do and adjust as needed. [p]See you in the Super Bowl!!![p]

• stike,
You didn't have to open up the vents a little compared to the 75-85 degree summer temps? I did a little, but there was no snow and it went down to 4 degrees overnight, maybe that could make a difference?
Ahh who cares, it isn't a big deal anyway. If it works by not changing then great!!
But if the temp seems a little lower then normal, then make a slight adjustment, it aint the end of the world, nothing to cry about. [p]

egghead2004,
i don't usually have to mess with the settings, but i don't do much at 4 degrees. most winter cooks have been in the 2s-30s, and i haven't noticed any difference...

jerseymatt,[p]Not the best photo but I think you can see the slight glow and the smoke coming out of the egg on the left. If any tweeking is necessary due to the temps it will be minor from my experience.[p]I'll be rooting along with you for the Eagles. It has been a great ride these last four years but lets hope they make it to the big game this year. By the way there are at least 3 players, including John Runyon, and a coach that are Eggers. Hmmm that Eagles green is pretty close to Big Green Egg green...must be because they are both winners.[p]Chuck
• egghead2004,
Thanks and I hope to see you at the big dance! That would be awesome. You know I went to the Pittsburgh Philly game earlier in the year and it was a great party (except the outcome of course). I wowed the Steelers fans with a Brisket and had people asking me if I would ship em. It's not me it's the egg!

Just another shot of some cold egging. This shot is the morning after an all nighter. Starting to melt a bit but it snowed through the night.
• stike,
Thanks...without a doubt do not want to see the Pats in Feb. They are a machine coached by a genius. Good luck!

• Chuck,
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES! I saw the eagle eggers where I got my egg last summer - stove works medford. Those pictures look like you are prett close to medford.

• Mark Backer,
Hell, I'll smoke anything once...we will have to see which nubmer 5 shows up. Why is the Diana Ross song "it's my turn" keep playing in my head? I am taking this too seriously!

jerseymatt,
The cold makes a lo-n-slow easier in my opinion. If it is 80 degrees outside, you need only a small fire to hold 215 degrees. If it is zero, you need a larger fire, which is less tricky. Bring on the bad weather. Bring on the Falcons. I aint a'scared.[p]All together now . . .[p]Flyyyy Eagles fly, on the road to vic-tor-y... Fiiiight Eagles fight, score a touchdown one, two, three. Hit 'em looow, hit em' high, gonna watch those E-agles fly... Go on a flyyyy Eagles flyyy, on the road to vic-tor-y. E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles.[p]
