BGE Nest, is it attached?

I have to get home from work to check, but was wondering if anyone on the forum knew off hand. I noticed last night that my XL lower vent seems to be more toward the left that it normally is. Looks as though the egg shifted some in its nest. I tried to move it back but the thing is too heavy.

I looked all around the nest and couldn't find where it was bolted to the egg. I assume the egg just sits in it and doesn't need to be attached due to its weight.

Anyone know for sure? I will most likely take all the guts out of it and try to shift it back to where the lower vent is once again centered.

  • It just sits in the nest and is not bolted.
Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

You are correct. It just sits in place. The Egg will shift around a little as it gets moved around. The XL is very heavy but as you mentioned, removing all the guts will help. Would still be nice to have another set of hands to hold the nest and help rotate into place.

I'll definitely ask a friend to help. Hopefully he will take ribs as payment.

I tend to move my XL from under an overhang when I'm cooking. Then I roll it back after I'm done. The back and forth over time must have shifted they way she sits. Not a biggie.

Thanks for the info, just wants to make sure that there wasn't something attached that I wasn't seeing. Definitely don't want to hurt my pride and joy.

The weight of the XL is pushing the limits of the nest.
The nest will twist a little with moving and kind of rotate over time because of the twisting. Not a big issue but not as easy to adjust as a small Egg.

  • The XL just sits in there. However, when I placed my XL in the nest, it was very snug. The vinyl bumpers actually have retention force against the BGE. So even if you remove the guts, you may find some resistance to turning the egg. Definitely a 2 person job - be careful!

Thanks for the tip. I'll make sure not to try it alone as I originally planned. Time to call in a favor.
