Got one for Christmas and it is finally thawing out enough. Got bbq/onion burgers on the egg now and would like to season after. I have grape oil which was highly recommened, time and temps would help a bunch.[p]Thanks,[p]CWM

Car Wash Mike ,
I`ve always seasoned my cast iron at 350° for several hours...I dont have the cast iron grid but I wonder how long any amount of seasoning it will last if people intend to do Trex steaks with em...would seem to me you would end up burning all the seasoning right back off...but thats just my opinion.....let it ride in the egg for a couple hours ay 350° then shut it down leaving it in the egg to do a gradual cool down...[p]Wess

WessB,
Actually it holds the seasoning pretty well at nuclear temps.[p]I did a 5 hour run with crisco at 250° just to season and then followed it with a 12 hour butt cook at 225°.[p]Later that day did a Trex steak and it was fine.[p]I'm actually about to lay on some burgers myself, must be because it's Tuesday.

Car Wash Mike ,
Just picked up a CI grate last week and seasoned it the other night after I did a T-rex on the original grate. I used plain ol' Wesson veg. oil and put it on...let the temp come down to 350 and gradually down to 250 for a couple hours and then shut the vents down.
Haven't used it yet but can't wait to try. It seemed to have a really nice finish on it already, unlike my Lodge dutch oven when I first got it.

BucsFanJim,[p]My Dutch ovens aren't holding up as well also. I used Crisco.[p]CWM

WessB,[p]I bought grape seed oil. After seasoning it is supposed to withstand higher temps for longer periods of time. Egg is at 350 right now, going to apply oil and let go for a few hours 3-4.[p]Thanks [p]Mike

Car Wash Mike ,
where do you get a cast iron grate?
-
BubbaQ,
I got it from my distributor.[p]I'm sure the store in Atlanta can help. This thing is heavy and ready to use for a high sear.[p]CWM

Mike,
Did you buy that from BGE? Also, need to replace my lower vent with new stainless one, but dont see it on the website, is it special order through locals or just call and order one up?[p]Greg
