Here is a quick tip for newbies or anyone else regarding the thermometer on your BGE. [p]The next time you are going to be cooking on your BGE, and you know what your target dome temp range is, twist your thermometer so that the desired temp is in the 12 o'clock position. That way your needle will be straight up and down when it reaches the desired dome temp. If you are worried about it messing up the calibration, then pull it out a tad bit, then twist it, then snug the holder back up. [p]This is an old race car trick so that drivers don't have to pay too much attention to their gauges while racing. They rotate their gauges so all optimum settings are at 12 o'clock, and as long as all the needles point straight up, everything is fine. If they are too far right or too far left, you know something is wrong. [p]It's much easier to casually glance over and see your needle at 12 o'clock than to look and figure out where your temp is every time you look at it. Especially after a few adult beverages ;~)

vr6Cop,[p]I started doing this a few months ago and now it's habit, and it makes checking from the kitchen on cold nights very easy.

vr6Cop,
As you stated...if there is ANY resistance when turning the thermometer you WILL throw it out of calibration....so if your thermometer is snug in the dome hole and you wish to use this method...remove it from the dome an re-insert it with your desired temp at 12 o clock...and just for the record, the clip that comes on the thermometer is on the outside of ALL my eggs, no need for it on the inside....HTH[p]Wess

vr6Cop,[p]It is very easy to accidently turn the calibration nut when you do this if your retainer is on really tight.

vr6Cop,
Thanks for the tip. That's a good idea for me as I'm looking out the window at my egg lately. The weather here is in single digits and somedays lower so I look out the window and strain to see the guage. Now I don't have to use binoculars to see the temperature numbers.[p]Clay Q
