Plate setter question? How to Clean?

David in Spring Hill Fla, why would you went to clean it? That shiny black is the patina to be shown with pride from use. Just scrape off any food spills as the rest will burn off anyway. My pizza stone is the same shiny black.

David in Spring Hill Fla,
You don't need to clean it. I use a putty knife to clean mine. You never want to use any kind of cleaner as the setter is pourus. Any kind of detergent will leave a taste you don't want in the meat. Just keep on cooking.[p]Jerry

David,[p]I have found that once seasoned, most of the big stuff like blobs of melted cheese will pop right off with very little pressure. I let the dog do the rest. The color will continue to get deeper and deeper, as it should. If you have a bunch of gritty soot, scraping gently is fine. I did clean mine once when sooty with warm water and a plastic kitchen scrubby. The remainder disappears the next time the setter gets pretty hot in a cook. As the others said..no soap. No soap for you (nevermind; I was thinking "soup").

David in Spring Hill Fla,
No need to clean as the others have posted before. No worries of food borne bacteria either as the high direct heat to the stone would kill any living thing.[p]I hope to meet you in person at the Florida Q-Fest. Be sure to register! See the top of the forum for registration link[p]Banker John
