My husband got me a Remote Check thermometer yesterday...even though I begged him not to. ;-}[p]I tried it out tonight and it works fine. It has two sensor probes; I only used one this time, to monitor the grill-level cooking temp. Set up the transmitter downstairs, on a table next to the Egg; the receiver was upstairs. Nice not to have to run up & down to check the temperature. This will be a treat in mid-January, and a real convenience for overnight cooks. [p]The controls on the receiver aren't very well-designed (hard to push), the unit has no memory to retain temp or clock settings, and it's pricey ($90 at Sharper Image). But as gadgets go, it performs as advertised.

Cat, just about a year ago I was walking 5th, 6th and 7th Ave looking for Sony's new FD-88 - I finally found it in July. Now one year later its obsolete - but it has been lots of fun - when you get your digital, also look into a good printer - I have an HP 970 and it does fantasic prints! I have an 8x10 frame in my office that I refer to my 'Picture of the Week'.[p]Tim, if you read this, did you sell your FD-71 on E-Bay? Did you get a new one? What kind?[p]

Cat,Looked at one of those a couple of weeks ago and was wondering about them. Love to own one one of these days keep me up on how it works. My next new toy is going to be a medium Egg. Maybe get one of the remotes in the winter when my wife has had enough of me going in and out to 'check' Humpty.
Hope you've had a great weekend and thanks for the encouragment again.

Gfw,[p]I did sell my FD-71 on Ebay. I got $360 as I recall, and I bought an Olympus 450 zoom. I often use the url below to go to a site that finds the lowest prices on the Internet. I have found it to be a GREAT place to find a low price. That camera was selling for $405 - $489. I bought it at the $405 place!!! Happy? Yes - very! [p]http://www.pricewatch.com/[p]A new feature I was not aware of is this thing called a Flash Path ($65). It looks like a 3.5" floppy but it has two tiny watch batteries in it and it slips into your regular 3.5" drive A. Many cameras now have this memory card that/s about the size of a stamp (really and as thin as one too)- you remove it from your camera and insert it into the Flash Path and insert that in drive A. Now just open up that directory and remove, doctor up or save the .jpg files on drive A. Really easy! I bought my Sony for the easy of moving files into my comuter without cables and long downloading times. This works perfectly for me![p]Sorry - long winded today. Anybody wanting more info or how to get discounts on accessories - email me.[p]Tim

<p />Cat,[p]What kind is it?? Gordon and I have the Nu-Temp wireless model. It is hard to program but does work well. I have been using mine as an indoor/outdoor thermometer. Its handy when I do long slow cooks like pork butts over night. If its like GFW's and mine, it can't stand heat over about 275 without melting the plastic insulation in the cable. Its still ok for long slow cooks though.
    Hope you enjoy yours.[p]Tim

Tim M,[p]It's called Remote Check - from Maverick Industries, Inc. The instructions say not to use above 410, but after frying a few Polders I plan to keep it below 350.[p]I like the fact that it has two probes; one to monitor cooking temp, the other for meat temp.[p]Cathy

    Cat,
I have one too, and I love it. The best thing about it is the ability to use one probe for the dome temp. I don't think the Nu-Temp one can do that because it can't take as high of temps. When you cook at 350 to 400, the Nu-Temp could not monitor your dome temp.
