I am considering adding a small to take on camping trips. How much, on average is a small BGE? What comes standard with the price?[p]Banker John

  • Banker John,[p]Mine ran around 300, with nothing extra, the egg, the video (I tried to trade the video for a picture of a nakid Princess Lea but I didn't work out. Boy was that guy a weirdo) and the wimpy manual. Was it worth it ? Yep, every penny. That little guy is a grilling and smoking machine. Period.[p]JWN
  • Banker John,
My dealer has the small for either $379 or $389 and it comes with thermometer and multi-function metal top.

Banker John, This wasn't your question but I had to comment. Last year I bought a small at the Florida Eggfest with the idea of camping too. I Immediately put it to use there at the campground and took it to and from my site to the fest.[p]I concluded that I really wanted to take my small camping, but didnt want to add its size and weight to my camping list. For me, picking up the small and putting it in the car or the nest was do-able but definitely not easy. I am the mule of the family when it comes to camping, and would have to load it, unload it and above all, find space for it.[p]I decided to buy a mini for camping. There's a huge difference between the mini and small. The small is an awesome cooking machine tons of space compared to the mini. If I planned a long trip(4+ days) or was camping with another family, I'd take it. The mini on the other hand is a piece of cake to pick up and put in the car. The big drawback is its not easy to cook for my family of 5.[p]I just did a 3 day trip last week w/the mini. I cooked biscuits, wings, potatos, steak, and heated some pop-tarts![p]The great news is I use the small every week at home, and I use the mini for steaks for 2 at home. Of course, I'm not trying to convince you of anything, I just wanted you to hear my thought process when I was thinking the same way as you a year ago.

    Banker John,
Not a camper here, but with all 3 of my BGEs my small sees no less than 50% of my cooks...it's a cool (HOT HOT HOT) little cooking machine.

  • Banker John,
My wife paid $350 back in August. It came with the dual function metal top and dome thermometer. As others have said, the Small is great. All my steaks, fish, chicken, and pork tenderloins are done on the small. My poor large has not been used since Thanksgiving when I did a pork butt and turkey. In February the big guy will see more use when I have a family gathering and I get some of that wicked good lunp for long cooks.
