Santa brought a 20 inch Bayou Classic dutch oven. I think Santa intended it to be used to do a Mad Max turkey for New Years Day. The big question was, would it fit in a large BGE. The assembled masses should know that it will fit provided you use the Spider with the Ceramic Store 13 inch stone under it for a barrier. Wish me luck. I have cooked almost daily on the Egg since I got it last March but I have never done the Mad Max turkey.

I tried the mad max turkey on thanksgiving for the first time. It was a big hit and one of the best turkeys I've ever had.Large & MiniMax in Lexington, KY

That wwas supposed to be a 20 quart not 20 inch. Sorry.

I am looking forward to the attempt. What kind of pot did you use?
-
I used my rib rack with a baking pan underneath.

Congrats on the DO! Maybe someday, I'll figure out something to do with one and then have the ammunition to convince the SO that I need one
To answer your question, according to
http://www.bayouclassicdepot.com/7420_cast_iron_dutch_oven.htm
the 20QT CIDO specs out at 16 3/8" x 6 3/8" (dia x height) - so, I'm thinking it'll fit with a little room to spare. There might even be room around it for fire exhaust gasses. Wow - that thing is just huge! -
Perhaps someone with more experience than me will chime in- but to be honest I'm not sure a DO is the best choice for the MM turkey. The DO might get too hot and burn your drippings.
A DO is great for chili and lots of things- but I think a disposable roasting pan might serve you better for the turkey.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
that is a great gift, but you dont need a dutch oven to make a mad max turkey. you should have been cooken turkey from day 1. use a any pan that will hold the bird.
