I agree with Kim I just like to add onions to the batch. Happy Holidays.

might be because ive always had boiled or steamed green beans thru out my life, but i made slow cooked ones with some smoked ham a few years ago. i think it was smoked ham , green beans, a little onion, and low sodium chicken stock and some water and a couple hours, subing some meaty bacon in would probably work. those south of boston and further probably eat this all the time

  • I am serving this with my Prime Rib tomorrow. I'll let ya know how it comes out.

    Green bean casserole
    Ingredients
    • Olive oil
    • 1/2 cup thinly chopped nuts (almonds or pecans)
    • 2 slices chopped thick-cut bacon
    • 1/2 medium onion, thinly sliced (Vidalia or white onion)
    • 1 1/2 red peppers
    • 1 heaping teaspoon minced garlic
    • 2-3 handfuls (about 3/4 pound) fresh french-cut green beans
    • 4 ounces thinly sliced baby bella mushrooms
    • 1/4 cup chicken broth
    • Salt and pepper
    • Feta cheese
    Preparation
On medium-high heat, start cooking chopped bacon, cook for a few minutes, then add chopped nuts with some olive oil until it forms a bit of a paste.
Continue cooking bacon and nuts for a few more minutes until the nuts are toasted. Then add thin slices of red pepper and onion and cook till onion is translucent. Add in heaping teaspoons of minced garlic, add french-cut green beans and mushrooms to the above ingredients and then stir-fry green beans and mushrooms for a few minutes.
Pour in chicken broth, put lid on to steam. Finish cooking the green beans, add salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle crumbled feta cheese over green beans and then serve immediately.
  • Best and easiest ever:

Par boil the green beans. (But you don't have to if you are lazy.) Wrap bacon around bundles of between 4-6 green beans. Bake them at about 425-450 til the bacon is done. Super yummy.
