Broke my ceramic cap
F308gt4
Posts: 35
Pouring rain here in Socal, but I was deadset on cooking a spatchcocked chicken. As I was setting up, underneath my umbrella, I dropped my ceramic cap, which broke into about 4 pieces.
I glued it together for now, but would like to get a replacement. Is it best to just call the mothership?
Since the glue is still drying, tonight when I finish cooking I am planning to cover the top with Aluminum foil and then the daisy wheel over that.
What a bummer...

check with your dealer first before you pay shipping

A bummer for sure :( ; but at least you can still cook!

I broke my ceramic cap several moons back; got a pack of JB weld from Home Depot, glued it up, and it's good as new, just a little more ugly.(Don't use the ceramic cap to hold down your Egg cover on a windy day; I read that somewhere). Uglydog

bummer indeed, been there, done that. i jb welded mine two years ago and it's still holding up well

We use our BGE all year round up here in Canada. Last year our cap broke, and since I am a potter, my husband asked me to create a replacement cap for our large size egg. We've been using it for over a year now, winter, spring, summer and fall. If anyone is interested, perhaps I could make more? lara@larafors.com

@Canadianegghead. That is to cool!!! I will be emailing you to see if I can get you to create me a NC State Wolfpack cap!!!

Can you put a pig up there? You may be very busy this Christmas.

I never put my ceramic cap on. I just close the daisy wheel and put the Egg under the porch overhand when it has cooled.

I have seen some ceramic caps on people, and I got to say just enjoy the bald life and stop plastering the squirrel to you head.

Suggest you use it to kill fire and put your black one in the egg at that time to keep it cleaner and working.

CanadianEgghead wrote:"If anyone is interested, perhaps I could make more?" I predict you may have a very busy Christmas. I will probably order a few as gifts. Do you have a website?@Ragtop99 I suggest you do as Mickey says. After the cook put the DW open wide on the grate, close the lower vent and put the rain cap on. That way you will have: 1) have a clean DW and 2) more left over lump for the next cook.Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx

I never got the ceramic cap with my large egg. Should I go get it from the dealer.
-
Yes, if you like getting your new purchases complete.....It comes with the egg.
-
Austin, I do close the lower vent and shut the daisy wheel to conserve the lump. Keeping the DW clean seems like a good idea so I may try doing it. Gotta find where I put the cap. I hid it somewhere so it would not get broken.

It would depend on what you would like to have. Shoot me an email with your idea and we can discuss offline...

My refurb egg never came with a cap...a bottom dish to a clay planter pot works just fine...add a rock on top if it is windy.Love smoking chicken...but they are hard to keep lit ;-) http://daveyrayland.wordpress.com/ Small Egg / Weber OTG 22" / CharGriller Trio / Masterbuilt 30" Electric

I hope that works, I broke my first egg, it landed into 4 huge chunks in the driveway, that was 1985. So sad that day.Living the good life in MACDonna

This one is in the works...
That is awesome. I'll contact you soon about one...Packerland, Wisconsin -
I was going to keep this 'cause I like it so much but I have a large BGE.
It shrunk in the final kiln round.
Looks tasty though.
Well, you all wanted to see it finished.

That pig looks great!! I have never been so happy to break something on my egg. I would recommend Lara to anyone that wants to add a customized piece of art to their egg.
