A few days ago i destroyed my Thermapen. if you remember i sprayed electrical contact cleaner on it trying to fix it because it was not function 100%. Over the life of the unit i've left it outside different times in the rain. one of the switches inside had become corroded. The contact cleaner destroyed the plastic and made the unit unusable. Totally my fault. the plastic literally broke apart in pieces from the cleaner. I thought for sure i would be buying a new thermapen. (they previously told me to mail it to them and they would fix under warrenty. i tried to fix myself)
Called Thermoworks (makers of thermapen) CS and they said they can probably fix it for small repair fee. Got a VM from them last night saying they had repaired the unit under warrenty. They had fixed it and sent it back to me the same day they received it.
So a big thanks to the folks at Thermoworks. They make an outstanding product and have fantastic CS. If they would have said sorry, we can't repair this, I wouldn't have hesitated in buying another thermapen. I would be lost with out. For those on the fence about spending the money, just thought i'd share.

There are two tools that will fix anything; WD-40 and Duct Tape. I think you used the wrong one!
Glad to hear it worked out for you, Jimmy. I figured you'd have to pay at least something!I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

thanks Michael.
You should have seen the look on my face when i broke my thermapen. I prolly looked like someone killed my dog or something. i'll be glad to get her back! -
That is great news Jimmy! Mine also stopped working after just 2 years, not sure why. I mailed it back to them Saturday and got an e-mail Monday that they had recieved it already. Waiting to hear from their service dept. if they can fix it. Your outcome gives me hope they can fix it for a small charge.

Fantastic news Jimmy!
Over the past three weeks I placed an order with them for an infrared thermometer that was on sale. After looking over the other infrared thermometers I decided to get a better one so I called them and asked what I could do about the whole situation. I was told I could place the second order and they gave me a return authorization number for the first order I placed and they would credit that purchase back to the credit card. Well I sent the first one back for credit and when the second order came in I was missing a thermocouple that came with the Infrared thermometer. So I called them again and they agreed to send me the thermocouple no charge and no shipping so I asked to send me a couple of the timers they sell and they placed them in the box (I paid for the timers) no shipping as well! Today I called and made sure all the credits were taken care of because the infrared I wanted went on sale the day after I made that purchase and they also credited me for that. WEW that's a lot of words!
Anyway I think the company is fantastic. Tim -
Tim, if they figured THAT out, they are better than I thought!!!!!!!!!

Teresa,
Good luck with your thermapen. Hope you are as satisfied with their CS as i am. -
Tim,
why did you get an infrared thermometer? For pizza? I've been wondering if that's my next gizmo that i need.... -
I'm very glad I took the advice of many on this forum and bought a Thermapen a few months back. I don't know how I ever got by without it!

Michael, They are better than you thought!!!!!!!!!

Jimmy, That is kinda what I was going to use it for. For now I have been using it to tell where cold air is coming in the house and fixing the air leaks.
I am learning how to make dough and tonight I plan to make 3 simple pizza's. I want to make sure I get a very stable setup before baking the pies and see what the infrared can help me learn. I figure eventually I won't need the infrared.
I will tell you this I bought the Y-IRK from ThermoWorks for $89. plus shipping and I like it because it also comes with an thermocouple that you can use to stick in the food as well.
Tim
