What would be a good tool to scrape off the gasket with, and what would be a good high-heat adhesive to use to adhere the new gasket with? Thanks.

I used some rubbing alcohol to saturate and dissolve adhesive, and a putty knife to remove most of it.

The Permatex Ultra Copper is what most use for adhesive.

I have had excellent success by heating the egg up to 300 dome temps or so and lay a bolt between the top and bottom shell creating a small gap around the gasket. Let it sit for an hour and the old gasket will peal right off. For adhesive, I have tried everything and the high temp silicone is the best by far but not necessarily food grade. Same goes for the Rutland gasket but hate to start another war.

I used a small wire brush and took a paper towel and soaked it in acetone, let it sit for a minute or so then it brushes right off, do it in sections not all at once. If you are putting on a nomex use 3m # 77 hi temp adhesive, if it is a rutland use copper permatex, I would not bother putting a felt gasket back on

I need to replace my gasket as well and will be using the nomex gasket and the 3m adhesive

I would still recommend the high temp silicone. The majority of gasket failures is a result of the 3M adhesive failing. That is only my opinion.

just to clarify... super 77 isn't high temp. it's just rubber cement on spray form.

best bite is with the permatex, FWIW

Are you saying get the dome to 300, put in the bolt(s), and maintain 300 for an hour or shut it down (close vents) for that hour?

Permatex holds my Rutland in place. Even after I hit it with a blast from the weed burner.
