The darlings got me a Food Saver (V-475 model)Something I was planning on getting anyway.
Their logic? If I have a Food Saver I can supply them with Pulled Pork in packets already frozen so they won't have to wait till I do a cook.
Aren't they thoughtful?

    Sundown,
Congrats. My kids gave me one too, as well as a long-sleeved Orka mit. Maybe my arm hair will grow back now. They are both college kids and they always raid the freezer when they visit before the return trip.[p]

    Bobbyb,

Been looking at those orka mitts. Not that I want any hair to grow back on my arms. My eyebrows never did grow back from that big flash a couple years ago. Had to have about half them tatooed on. Really. The things we'll do for a good crust on a steak.[p]Enjoy those foodsavers! I just love the thing![p]mShark

MollyShark,[p]Used my Cosco Orka mitts yesterday to do the turkey flipping (ala James Beard's recommendations), and they worked great. Threw them in the dishwasher to clean. Couldn't be neater or easier. [p]I used to use wadded-up paper towels to grab the turkey. While that kept my skin from contacting the hot turkey, my hands, wrists and forearms were still exposed to the charcoal's heat. Then I used welders' gloves along with the paper towels, but the gloves quickly grew nasty and unsuitable for much other than, say, welding. The Orkas take care of protecting the hands and arms, and since they're impermeable and easy to clean, they take care of the "funky welder's glove" syndrome as well.[p]Bob
