Seeking a holiday party appetizer idea

We got invited to a holiday party Saturday evening at the neighbors. I was asked to bring an appetizer from the BGE. There will between 30-40 people at the party and I’ve done ABTs the last few times so I am looking for something new and not as much work.

Any suggestions on something fairly easy given the numbers involved?

Thanks,

I had stuffed dates at an eggfest and made them a few times. Big hit. Stuff a date with an almond, wrap in 1/3 slice of thin bacon. Dust with your favorite seasoning, egg over drip pan til bacon is crisp.

How bout a stuffed mushroom? Haven't tried these...but love shrooms on the egg. Seems like it would be pretty easy cause you could just whip up a batch of the stuffing and spoon into the shroom caps. Is there such thing as sausage and crab meat stuffed shrooms? If not there should be.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Not very original but feed a lotta folks, not a lotta work....wings.The cookbook section has a lot of appetizers too.
  • Dexterdog,

This requires a bit of work beforehand but it is very easy to prep and serve the day of. You can produce a lot in a short time.

  • I agree on the wings - easy most people like wings...

I made em with some spices I got from Eggtoberfest that were Incredible. Tsunami Spin from Dizzy Pig - 2 dozen wings gone in a heartbeat. Making the same for my daughters party next week along w/some cheeseborger sliders.

  • I'm all for wings, stuffed mushrooms and Little Steven's Chicken...REALLY Great ideas!
I have never done wings (yes, I know, I'm bad), but I've had all sort of fun with mushrooms and done Steven's Chicken on a Stick! Two out of three, isn't that bad, is it?

OTOH, I just did some stuff for a family get together at Thanksgiving that was a bit unusual, good, not difficult and well received.

One was ham wrapped and the other bacon wrapped this go-round, but bacon, thin sliced Black Forest ham or prosciutto, (I'm thinking) would all work real well on any of it.

First Asparagus: Season up asparagus spears with a bit of olive oil, seasoning (Season-All, Old Bay, Weber or Mrs. Dash grill mates...What ever you like) and toss, wrap a spear...or two in a slice of ham, secure with a pick and grill until the ham is well browned. The asparagus comes out tender crisp. And...If you want the asparagus more done...Steam or nuke it a bit before the process, just take caution not to cook or grill to much. Some tooth is necessary here, or it goes real bad!

The other is a whole water chestnut, wrapped in a peppered bacon, picked and grilled. This go-round the little puppies got glazed on the grid at the end of the cook (remember that we're not cooking the nut and just needing to well brown the bacon) with my Peach, Bourbon Sauce.

Also served some warmed sauce along side as a slather or dip

    BOURBON, PEACH SAUCE
    North Portage Smoke-Shack

    1/2 C. peach preserves
    1/4 C. bourbon
    1/4 C. chili sauce
    1-1/2 t. OLD BAY® Seasoning

1)) Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan and heat to just boiling. Cool before using.

Just looked up the stuffed fritos. Those look great!
  • A christmas fatty with a bacon weave would be a big hit! For my crowd, they love the fatty stuffed with tater tots, cheddar, and jalapenos. Make it longer & thinner and the pieces are perfect bite sized appetizers!

Most popular appetizer last year were BB ribs first split in half longitudinally and served as individual 1/2 rib bites. Lasted 5 minutes............
