Following your instructions on who to use: USPS.....
Now when should I mail for Santa deal using the Priority mail (under 4 lb) box?
Asking what kind of real world time will it take from Texas to Ottawa?

Priority Mail is for the USA only. I send things to Canada occasionally and find the postage is surprisingly cheaper than here in the US! and a lot cheaper than the cost of Priority Mail! Delivery though seems to always be in the 8 to 11 day range.

I assume you also know you will have to fill out a customs declaration slip stating the value and I assume in your case stating it is a gift...otherwise your recipient could have to pay a tariff. BTW I also had an incident where the postmaster in a small town went so far as to open the package I sent to verify the content declared and then charged the recipient a fee for opening it! That's no lie!

the USPS website will give you an estimate on delivery. this time of year, might add a day or two to their estimate.......You'll need to complete a customs form...no biggy just name and address stuff and the post office has them. I find best time to visit the post office is 2 pm, smallest lines. t

    Ron,

they must see me coming a mile away, cause I can't get anything up there for less than 35 bucks. That's for a package that I could send to you for $10.90. If you need any apple wood, i'll gladly send you some. (I need to get some to Molly first though :pinch: )
  • Tom,

I sent a package to Leroy last monday and they said it would be there by Friday. Still not there.

I only recall sending a package to Canada once, 2-3 years ago. I didn't fill out any paperwork, just addressed the package and took it to USPS.. He never said anything about having to pay any duty or whatever, so I assume he didn't. Maybe he was just being nice. It was no different than sending to someone in the states. Got there in about the same amount of time too. YMMV, of course.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

  • Michael,

If it's marked as a gift there is no tax. I hope I don't have to pay tax when Leroy and Miss Judy's package comes back to me.

Well, I don't remember whether I labeled it a gift or not. Funny though... I have had things shipped to me from the UK (online purchases) and they were labeled as gifts! Don't know how they get away with that, but free is free so I didn't complain.

Steve's daughter left her purse at the sunshine fest so I told him I would ship it up. Boxed it and went to the post office and on the customs form wrote purse and the guy asked what was in the purse  Told him it was a little girls purse and I'm not looking  but you can if you want so he said just guess and write something down. I did, he stamped it and it went right through.

Steve, I presume you sent it by Expedited Parcel USA with ETA of four business days? Unfortunately it's not one of the services with guaranteed delivery date, otherwise you can write them and expect a postage refund.

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Good one! as I said the other night Little Steven somehow wraps his whole body around several jars of La Bomba every year and has himself shipped into the USA. He then messes around at some eggfests and then scampers back across the border unnoticed so I'm sure it is his height that keeps him under the radar!

  • I sent my package to Steve's sister just a few days after you sent your package to his daughter. I think the post office sent a notice for Steven or Norma to pick up a package (my package), then told them to disregard the notice, as they had picked up the package (Pat's package). I suppose my package must have languished for several weeks at Steven's post office. They eventually sent it back to the States......it took about 1 1/2 to 2 months to get returned to me. Then I had to remail it and pay the postage again. It's all your fault Pat.

  • Adam,

Tell me it didn't cost you $35 to send me the wood and gaskets. I feel terrible.

I tell them 'smoking wood' and they tilt their head and say "for what?" Then I tell them it has no real value and they say. "OK 35 bucks sir" :ermm:
  • It cost him $35 to send me just the wood and I do feel terrible, each chunk is about $75 cents worth...
