Beer can turkey

Since my Mad Max turkey didn't turn out the way I wanted, I decided to cook a beer can turkey. I injected the bird with creole garlic and creole butter marinade, poured buttermilk over it, and covered it with BGE garlic/pepper seasoning. (I know it's not your traditional seasonings but it taste so good) I let it sit overnight and smoked it today at 325 w/cherry chips. Oh yeah, I stuck a can of miller lite in the back end! Thanks for all the advice.

Mark,
I'm going to try one before Chrismas. I will invert the bird on the stand though.

It seems that it would be difficult to invert! How do you accomplish getting the holder in the other end?!?! If I went with a larger turkey it wouldn't have fit! Can you get a larger turkey in the BGE using your method?

Haven't tried it with turkey yet. Chickens come out perfect though. The butt end is up in the hotter part of the egg and cooks faster. All the fat from the legs and thighs runs over the breast. I have forced some chickens on the roasters but I think you can cut some bone to let it get on. You can always take out the fire ring and put the grid or platesetter on the box.

Try it with a chicken man! I thought about it on the way home from work one night and have done about five. Like it better than spatchcock by a ton.

Where did you get your stand? I have the turkey stand from the BGE store and it has a real wide diameter neck….gonna be hard putting it in the other end.

I don't have a turkey stand and was going to pick one up. For one big chicken I used the stand from the turkey fryer. As I said I think you can cut away some of the backbone to make it fit. With the chickens, I've just got them started and slammed the whole thing on the counter a few times.
