I am making Chicken wings to take to a party. I cut off the tips of the wings.

I always throw them away but now that I am saving backs and necks for Stock, can I save the tips and use that for Stock as well ? Will they add any flavor to the stock ?

Thanks.

Yes, I just freeze the pieces and have been known to save leftover chicken bones and place in the stock also.

Absolutely! I've been making stock with wing tips for many years. When I'm making wings, I cut the tips off and put them in a sandwich sized ziplock then into a plastic grocery bag in the freezer. When the bag is about half full its time to make stock. -RP

Would I roast the wings with the backs and necks as well ?

    Thanks.

save the wings for stock, even if your just boiling water for rice toss them in when the waters cold. not much meat on a wing tip but my dog loves it. save pork bones from pulled pork, ham bones from easte dinner, they all make great stock or soup

You can but I never do, if I've got the time I'll saute them in the pot before adding the water. I usually just put them in the pot frozen with everything else and get cooking. -RP
  • I'll put any chicken pieces, parts and leftovers in the stock pot, except for excess fat. For years I was throwing away chicken skin, until someone reminded me it's loaded with collagen. Duh.

I just portioned up three birds last night, for tonight's dinner. The only chickeny stuff that wound up in the garbage was the packaging. Makes for less stinky garbage.
