I'm seeing lots of variations on time, temperature, plate setter vs. open grill, etc. in turkey recipes. Does anyone have a tried and true guide for doing a turkey? Would hate to mess up the first one on Thanksgiving. Thanks!

Everyone raves about Max's method. I've never tried it, only because I'm always at Mom's for turkey occasions, but if I ever do, this is the way I will (try to) cook it!

    Good luck - and welcome!!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

  • I never never done the MM method but have cooked many turkeys that were excellent. Basically you cook them the same as you would in the oven. I will say however they cook much faster on the egg due to the convection type cooking. A 13 lb bird at 375 dome will be done in slightly over 2 hours...a 20 lb bird at the same dome will be done in slightly over 3 hours. The biggest oops every year here is the turkey finished early... I would allow for 45 minutes resting time and cook to the time and temps listed and you will have enough wiggle room.
  • Thanks, I wondered about the long MM cook time at 325, but maybe basting every 20 minutes moderates that??
