We ate at a mexican place in Nashville not too long ago and had burritos filled with shredded pork and other ingredients They were great. Has anyone done these before? I cant find a recipe in any of my books or on the forum. I cooked a pork butt overnight and would like to use it.

I use pulled pork in tacos, burritos, and tostadas. A little hot sauce and a squeeze of lime changes it from BBQ to carnitas. -RP

A burrito is what you make of it. Add as many or as few of these ingredients as you prefer.

A nice, big steamed flour tortilla

    Shredded pork (duh)

Rice -- The fancy burrito restaurants make it with cilantro and lime. Google for recipes. I've done it. It's easy.

Beans -- Black, pinto, mild or spicy, it's up to you.

    Salsa

Cheese -- Authentic white Mexican cheese is best, but Moterrey Jack or a blend will work in a pinch.

Guacamole -- I prefer it outside the burrito, but some like it in.

Sour Cream or Mexican Crema -- Use crema if you can find it, and you can if you look.

At this point, you're on par with Chipotle and Qdoba.

Don't do what I always do, which is put so much stuff in it that it is impossible to roll.
  • Richard,

You have to try enchiladas too.

I took a pound of PP tonight and sauteed it until it started drying out, then added a packet of taco seasoning mix and a couple cups of water. I cooked it until almost all the water was gone then made some taco shells with some corn tortillas and had some awesome tacos. -RP
  • Carnitas {spelling} Basically slow cooked mexican pork served with what ever you choose to add, on tortillas.
  • Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Going to give it a try tomorrow night. The wife is very happy that we are going to eat something other than bbq and pizza.
