  • Octoberfest Brats in Pretzel rolls

Since it is the last weekend in October we decided to do little celebrating Octoberfest style.  I think Oktoberfest is actually over in Germany, but oh well.

Used this recipe to make pretzel roll buns.

Grilled up some brats and some onions with a little butter n beer (the onions are hidden under the brats).

Then made up a beer cheese and mustard for topping.  I looked up a few recipes and just winged it.  A little beer, dijon and spicy brown mustard, a little butter, garlic salt and pepper.

Served with a side of German potato salad (cold...don't think that is traditional).

    Eeetz goot ya.

Lots of beer to accompany this of course.  Not German beers, the missus and I have been on an IPA kick lately and we tried a few different ones.  I think this was my favorite:

  • Snowy egg in GA

I have lived in GA my whole life. I never thought I would see snow like this again at home.

...my egg is in the picture so it is not OT
  • Re: One more "The Chicken" and "The kids Chicken"

Thanks again RP. I'll let you know how Santa likes them on Christmas morning ;)
  • Re: One more "The Chicken" and "The kids Chicken"

Thanks, Tim. The veggies were pretty good if I don't say so myself. My kids came back for seconds on veggies which rarely happens!

My wife made veggie omelets with the leftovers this morning. Mmmmmmm!
  • One more "The Chicken" and "The kids Chicken"

After all the rave reviews I had to give this a try. I have to agree that it was wonderful. I think my 6 year old daughter summed it up best when she said "for Christmas, you should leave this chicken for Santa instead of cookies".

    The Stuff:

The Veggies (ok...I should say "some veggies" because I just improvised here). On a side note- baby bella mushrooms are wonderful.

...notice the customized pan. This is for use with the BGE 3 tier rack (using 2 levels). That silly post that goes straight up the middle can be a pain.

    The kids chicken:
My 2 youngest won't do spicy, so to be on the safe side I improvised some weak sauce. I basically just used all of the non spicy ingredients and some Stubbs sweet BBQ sauce. I used lemon juice, vinegar, Worcestershire to thin it out. It was tasting a little bland so I mixed in some of the real sauce to give it just the slightest kick. It turned out pretty tasty and the little ones loved it. The original chicken was also great, and to my surprise not too spicy at all once applied to the chicken. My oldest (10) devoured it.

Thanks RP for the recipe and the advice!
