Anyone have any advise or ideas on how not to have the food I cook stick to the grate? I am sure this is an easy fix but I am just an amatuer.
Thanks

Rub the grate with olive oil or spray it with PAM before placing food on the grate. Do this with the grate off and away from the fire.

Maybe you are not letting your food cook long enough and it is not naturally releasing from the grill.

That takes all the fun and excitement out of it. -
How does you food get at the bottom of the firebox?

The aerosal flashback is not discussed on the DVD...hence the warning...

I roll up a hand towel the size of a 5" sausage. Tie it off with butcher string in three places.(both ends and middle) I place that in a snap lock container. I pore in about 1/2 inch of olive oil. It will soak it up completely. I keep that sealed next to the egg to use every time I grill. I light the grill and when it starts to warm up, I use my tongs to pick up the oily puck and completely wipe my grate down. It works perfectly and is now a part of the routine. No more sticky food on my grates.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Don't mess with the food until it's good and browned and it will let go.
Beers!

bah. never sprayed it with nuthin.
even with oil the grate will stick. gotta let the sear marks develop. do a tuscan steak, with olive oil. toss it on, and in 30 seconds try to lift it off. it'll stick just like a regular steak.
once the grate chars the meat it'll pull off easily enough. -
for some reason not much sticks to my grill, seems like the grease just builds up over time chicken skin sometimes sticks i gently slide the wing or thigh side to side after a few minutes and that section doesnt stick again. at high temps you need to wait til the meat releases itself, wait for a slight char or burn from the grill and it releases. never clean your grill

i am in the "never clean your grill" camp too, especially with my mack-daddy stainless one from the man himself. i only knock off gobs of sticky stuff or carbonized foam.
my grill is coated in un-stickable-ness

Start with a clean egg and put your food in the egg from the bottom vent and stick it to the hot grate. When the meat falls down flip it over and stick it one more time.easy pasy

I'm with you guys.... food will stick to a too clean grid , just like it'll stick in a too clean wok. Needs to build up a hardened grease defense system. I only brush off the chunks.

thats my shiney stainless one to. see the two thighs with the torn skin. marketbasket thighs are a wreck lately, they even hide their skin destruction by packing them skin side down in the styro so you cant find a good assortment. friggin mess trying to get the skin back on the thigh to look descent and stay on while flipping them, maybe muffin trays will help :laugh:fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

that's actually my home made raised rig, with what i think is a weber stainless grid.
just did four MB thighs the other night. the upside down one had shredded skin. and what the heck is with the dude packaging them? one will be the size of my own arm, and the other three will be miniature. never occurs to them to at least TRY to sort by size?
you get any duck breast yet? wtf? -
no. no we can't. how very true.
 -
its time for the duck breasts, ill ask tomorrowfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
