My guess this is a stupid question

OK, so been egging a few years, but have never seen this addressed....is there a way to get your daisy wheel openings set and then having it stay that way even as you lift it on and off of egg to open? Does anyone care? Not like this is a huge deal, but have thought about it since first day. Even thought about forming a magnet of some sort to hold in set in place.
Is it too early to start drinking now :woohoo: .
Good friday to all!!!

put the screw at 12:00

Looking at the front of your egg the daisy screw should be directly away from you. Methinks you are using the ceramic cap to kill the fire and putting the daisy in. You need some good solid crud on that baby to stiffen it up.

Sure...as you might expect...Naked Whiz wrote his College Thesis on that exact matter!!!
:woohoo:
Check his site for the above info and even pictures!!

Putting the screw at 12 o'clock should do it, but if you want it "permanent", just shim it with a toothpick.

Yes, but Cecil said 12:00 and I didn't want to confuse Tooembarrassedtopostwithrealhandle  :laugh:__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

With the high power help you got on this. The problems of the New York mosque could be fixed in minutes....Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

CW once said it was 12 o'clock also.
hmmm.
here's a pic i marked up. someone else took this, i forget who.
thing is, you don't just keep the screw in the 6 o'clock position. if you swing the daisy all the way open and then open the lid, it would swing shut again if you kept the screw at the same spot.
the Whiz wrote this idea up a million years ago.
position the screw so that when you open the dome, the sliding door of the daisy will 'hang' off the screw without allowing the door to shut.
here's a bad sketch.

I'll check the offical rule book to see if that is even allowed!!

Is 12:00 north or is 18:00 south, I'm confused. I make sure the screw is right above my dome handle.

that mosque at ground zero. yeah. yikes. i would be really upset too, you know, if it were actually a mosque, and if it were actually being built at ground zero. there are strip clubs closer to ground zero than that thing.
hahaha
so much for the first amendment -
To answer that question.
The first time I saw Tim's picture I thought, "Of course! How obvious is that?"

as he said, "He's in Texas?" What does flush mean. But I will give him credit, he installed a two holer last year

I have the perfect solution to the mosque thing. Simply let five or six of us eggers each go buy a hog and take it to the site and slaughter, er sacrifice, it and then butcher it on site. Take it home and then egg it. Bingo, win-win. Mosque cannot be built on defiled ground and we get a good pork cook on or eggs.

It's always 6 o'clock somewhere...

With the effort folks put into responding to my question, I feel kindly obliged to pull back that curtain and thank folks personally, regardless of how silly question originally seemed. The concept of moving the screw to coincide with the open position of the daisy wheel was spot on!

Thanks again, and a great weekend to All!!! -
no. that was just necessary for the set-up...
i think it has a small mosque as a part of it, but fundamentally it's a cultural center, from what i understand. people just label it a "mosque" (as though that were bad for some reason), and keep saying it's "in the shadow of ground zero", which is a stretch of imagination
i frankly don't think the fact that the jackwads who hijacked the plane were muslim implies that all muslims are bad.
gingrich said "they don't allow us to build churches over there, why build mosques over here?" (paraphrasing) gee, i dunno, maybe as proof of our fundamental belief in religious freedom? -
You can also just wrap a little bit of wire around the screw post. This will impart drag sufficient to overcome the tendency of the wheel to rotate downward while still allowing adjustment.
-
And what TimM said - WORKS!
-
THAT'S the set of pics. i knew there were more than just the one i had (which i guess i got from tim)

Screw position keeps the swinging gate located, and gunk keeps the spinner in the right spot. If you're putting the DFMT in the Egg after every cook, stop. It will be too clean.

The issue of a "Stupid Question" has surfaced many times throughout history, and the more learned believe that the best example of a Stupid Question is the one that is un-asked.
That being said, there has never been a shortage of Stupid Answers.
