Has any one used this $75 temp controller
Anthony
Posts: 40
A few years ago, I made a temp controller using an auber pid. When it was said and done, I probably had a similar cost to the complete package now offered by auber listed below. This at $75 and a $5 to $10 dollar blower from ebay seems like a bargain for a simple controller.

Now that's a sweet little package for $75, AND you get to play with the setup parameters, too! I've looked at building my own system using a temperature controller from Automation Direct, but even that's more expensive than this. BOOKMARKED! Thanks for the link, Anthony.

What type of blower are you talking about?Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

I originally a blower we make where I work. THis was a 4 cfm blower but designed for a pressure application. I was blowing smoke out of every gasket. I then bought a $5 blower off of ebay + like$6 shipping. If you search brushless dc blower on ebay, you will get a lot of hits. Here are two that are in the 5-8 cfm range. I have a similar one and I took some flat aluminum and snipped it with tin cutters, bent it to fit the bottom draft and glued it to the blower with rtv. You could also just buy one from bbq guru but, now you talking $80 with the adapter. I think it is a 12v fan.

Here is one for sale, not an auction 6.4 cfm

Anthony --
So the blower is attached directly to the aluminum plate that slides into the bottom vent slot? It doesn't get too hot? Also, I use a nest and one of the legs is right near my bottom vent. Would I be able to slide this contraption in?
I've always been hesitant to buy a Guru/Stoker for a couple of bills, but I might be able to get behind some sort of semi-homebrewed contraption.

This is some great info Anthony. I would be willing to spend $100 for a homemade setup. I just can't justify paying 300+ for a guru/stoker. Nothing really to a guru/stoker and a cheap plastic blower. Look what a $300 dollar laptop does today and they want 300+ plus for a thermometer what turns on a fan? Not trying to bash the guru/stoker but really don't understand the price. The plastic from the blower is not touching the grill. the blower outlet is small and sits in the center offset by the bent up AL. I have not had a melting problem, i guess it could happen and precautions should be taken. It definetly is not as nice as what guru or stoker cell. It looks like it cobbled it together and theirs look professional. They also have their blowers offset from the smoker, this also allows room for a door or a slide to reduce air flow and prevent natural draft flow. I am not home for a couple of days but will try to remember to snap a picture.

Thanks, Anthony -- I'd love to see a couple of pictures of your BGE setup. Seems like it might be a bit tougher than the WSM setups in the links.
