Is this cherry????
I need some cherry chunks for my brisket cook tonight and don't want to drive across town to get some.

Hi Rebecca. Yes, it looks like wild cherry to me. Smoke away.
Mark -
My vote - yes, cherry.
GG -
Yep. Cherry.
-
Thanks Mark!
BTW, you must be smokin something yourself if you're qouting Chubbyisms! :woohoo: -
Thanks GG!
I figured it looked like cherry, but wasn't sure. The winds from Hurricane Ike knocked down about 14 or so trees the other year. Including hickory, cherry, black oak, and maple. -
Thanks Jeff ..........now I can fix my first packer!
-
Afternoon Rebecca!
I'd vote that's cherry as well!!
One thing...I wouldn't use use that peice (with the bark on)! However you decide to remove it...use the heart wood...not the bark!!
Bark will give your Q a tannic/rancid smoke flavor!
Wood ...good!! Bark...bad!!
Good luck on your Beefer!!
Evans
Ps...Just what is wrong with "Chubbyisms" anyway??
I use'm all the time!
:cheer:I spent most of my money on good bourbon, and bad women...the rest, I just wasted!! -
Looks like cherry to me too. I know ^ this slice is and it looks pretty close.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
I must confess Evans, I think Chubbyisms are right up there with Shakespeare and Homer Simpson.
-
Have you been listening to Johnny Cash lately?
-
thirdeye, I think our cherry trees must have been growing side by side!
Sure hope my first packer brisket turns out as gorgeous as your briskets! -
I'll even go further out on the limb and tell you it is Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) to boot! This one is in my yard and was identified by a certified arborist!
-
I sit by the phone...(all "googley eyed"...staring off in space...)endlessly pushing the rewind and play buttons!!
Ann finally erased it and put me off to bed though...!!
I spent most of my money on good bourbon, and bad women...the rest, I just wasted!! -
Don't you think Chubby has a Zen-like presence about him similar to Yoda's?
-
Once he starts in on you with the Latin...it's usually all over!!
Let's jus't say we've seen good women...turn bad in a hurry...and never find their way back!!

Indeed RRP, it must be a black cherry tree!
Those deer aren't coming near my hostas.....but than again, neither are my friends coming near me for some strange reason, lol. -
It sure works for me too - I assume you are having your nephew apply it monthly aren't you? If you don't those hostas could still be history. Yesterday we walked by a house that had had a beautiful canopy just the day before and the deer just left stems...ugly!

hey! don't go giving away anymore of my George Clooney inspired secrets!

definitely the Zen Master Mark!

Chubby,
Here's one of my favorite arias, Oh mio babbino caro......

Apple, peach and cherry are pretty easy to get around hear. However, hickory, black oak, and maple - no such luck.

"Shakespeare and Homer Simpson."

Well...
It is unanimous (sp?); as I too am 100 % sure it is Cherry!
I our part of the woods (Northern MN) it is Wild or Black Cherry…Which already got a vote too.
It is wonderful stuff with a mild, yet very flavorful, in your nose taste! I love it! -
Looks like Black Cherry to me. I see it just about everyday where I work as solid lumber and as veneer.
Good smokin wood.
Enjoy your brisket cook!
