New egg halves stuck together

Ran the egg up to 650 to clean the grid (watched it entire time... never got any hotter) and found it stuck shut after it cooled. Guess the adhesive melted and ran. This was the 6th time I've used it and have been careful to keep temps under 400 previously. Wonder if the thermometer failed... cap was off, bottom vent open wide, fresh load of Royal Oak but the thermometer never showed above 650.
Can't get a table knife between the gasket halves... even with a little tapping from a mallet. Is it time for the box cutter and gasket kit?

please NEVER use a hammer, mallet, screwdriver anything like that as the ceramic will chip and then that is user error not covered by warranty. Use a thin sharp blade and cut the gasket apart - and yes you'll probably need a new gasket.

Sorry to hear that. That definitely sucks. These posts should help you.

Also, you will definitely need a new gasket. Get the BGE nomex one. It is better for high temps. On youtube, you can find videos by Fred aka smokinguitarplayer on how to install a new gasket.

Deckhand,
650 is a little more that needed for a simple grid cleaning. I hit mine with a brush at about 300 while it's warming up.
just sayin -
Egg is unstuck. Wife found a spot near the back where she could get an old bread knife in and cut through the remaining gasket. Not much remaining. Adhesive ran down inside the egg halfway around. Will re-read all the old posts on gasket installation, band tightening, etc. Will probably go with the Rutland but will consider the Nomex too. Would be really daunting task without all the good advice and demo videos. Thanks everyone.
One question... Would 650 normally cause this much destruction of a properly aligned egg? I did the dollar test and tension was fairly even all the way around. I calibrated the thermometer when I installed it a month ago but I'm questioning it's hi temp accuracy. Don't want this to happen again.
Thanks again,
Mark
