Greetings!
I have a Large BGE and noticed that my grate at the bottom is cracked about 50% of the way across.
Here's a picture of the crack
Is this a warranty item or do I need to buy a new one?
Thanks all!

Warranty. And welcome to the zoo.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Your dealer might say it's not, but per BGE Atlanta it is.. If your dealer needs proof have them call Atlanta
-
Funny you posted that now, I just got back from my local dealer to get mine replaced, it split in two. They told me that only the outer shell was a lifetime warranty and everything else was only one year. They would special order me one for $30. I don't think so. -RP
-
That will work for quite some time. I just lost my second grate. Called the mothership and they are sending a warranty grate out, shipping was $10.
-
Randy, I just bought one for 1 of the larges and retail was $12.99
-
Only the outside shell has a lifetime warranty? Only one year on fire ring, firebox? I call BS on that one. I hope I don't run into that at my dealer. I'm known to show out over things such as this in public. Just ask my wife

15.99 + shipping from Hard to Find Items:

I asked BGE about the warranty on the platesetter. The answer was...
The plate setter comes with a one year warranty. It is an accessory part, not a part that comes with the Egg and since it's a part that is constantly being put in and taken out of the Egg, that increases the chance for mishap. If the plate setter is less than a year old and has not been abused, it is covered by the warranty.
Fireboxes, rings and fire grates are not accessories.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Heres what I read on the warranty section of the website. It might be worth pulling up for them in the store.
"Warranty does not apply to damage caused by improper assembly, misuse, accidents, commercial use, mechanical alterations, negligence, improper care, natural or accidental disasters; nor, to the gasket, or to a Big Green Egg temperature gauge."
I don't see anything about they don't cover the grate. -
It's covered Randy. I asked Bobby that question at the last Eggtoberfest. It's covered.
-
Would you be considered commercial use? :woohoo: :woohoo: You sure do give your eggs hell
-
I know it is Pete, told them so but it didn't do any good. Not worth it to stand there and argue it with them. -RP
-
Maybe. -RP

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the speedy replies...
My local shop (R&T Services, Billings, MT) is ordering me a new grate today! She mentioned they are now metal instead of the ceramic? (anyone know?)
*shrug*
Appreciate the help...I feel like a member of the EggHead brotherhood!
Thanks again and happy grillin'!

-
A true testimony to the durability of the egg.. I'd say :woohoo:
-
I reckon you are right.. but I sure would have told them they lost my business..
-
Here's a followup. It is covered under the lifetime warranty, just pay shipping.
Or...

$10 shipping was cheaper for me. -
I'm sure they dont mind, as much exposure as you give them.
-
They'd probably be happy to see me go HAHAH Randy on the other hand.. Wait he won almost all his eggs never mind!!!
-
$30 special order, for something they are getting free? Some dealers tarnish the BGE name.
We have one only open on Saturday, otherwise, they are open during work hours. -
With the TurboGrate i dont worry about the Grate Cracking.
-
Actually none of the people there have ever heard of the forum. Its a shame too because the forum is one heck of a sales tool, that's what convinced me to buy my first. -RP
-
You already got your answer...and not that it's really a big deal either way...but you have it installed upside down..
-
LOL...I sent my old man down to the mother ship with $20 bucks for a new one. He showed back up with the new one and some steaks. AFTER I cooked them and we had dinner he informed me that the grate was free and he spent the money on the steaks.
Don't screw with old people. -
That's funny. I would do the same to my son. :woohoo: :woohoo:
