Has anyone used a pizza stone instead of a tile or concrete paver under the egg (as a base/heat barrier)?

One would have to ask why. If it is a thickness issue, you still need the green feet to create an air barrier if the stone is on wood.

I agree with Steven. Go to Home Depot and buy you self one giant stone floor tile for a dollar.

A paving stone at any Hardware or Home Supply Outlet is a buck or two, pizza stone $35.00? No brainer
.
Get a 16" stone, smaller will not quite do it, and use the feet!

I used half size firebrick. It is 1 1/2 inches thick and made for heat. Readily available at a brick supply place and not expensive.

to expensive for me to use a pizza stone, unless you have to many on hand
