what is a weed burner??
-
been using one for years and years, you dont have to pull the trigger and give it the full 500,000 btu's, but you willfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
-
I guess a response could be are you going to light the lump or super heat heat one section of the egg or egg parts parts.
I use a weed burner in the winter and no problems but I move the flame over the lump for about 45 seconds to a minute. There are a lot of other egg'rs out there that use the weed burner also.
There is a lot of heat and I take care about the gaskets.

I guess it will if you hit it hard enough
Seriously, I can't imagine it putting that much heat in one spot to crack it unless you leave it there for a very long time. I haven't tried using a weed burner yet, but I'm considering it. -
We have one and know others that use one and have never heard that.

While looking for a link for BigA's question I just saw this head for a propane torch.
Notice the 1.5" wide flame head. Might give a wider lighting path for lighting the lump.

No, used responsibly. Get one, you will never go back to your old lighting method
-
its hot, enough t kill the leaves on a tree 15 feet away :laugh:fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I guess that depends how hard you whack the side of the egg with it.
If you use it for lighting, no problems. If you use it to apply some blunt force trauma then yes, perhaps you can crack it. -

I use my $14.00 Harbor Freight weedburner, almost exclusively now.
My precautions:
Take care from sparks getting in your eyes, (wear eye protection!!)
Errant sparks burning holes in clothing
Burning up the gasket.
I don't aim the fire-ball at anything other then the lump.
I tried, (briefly!!!) closing the dome lid to funnel sparks out the top, but had the flame go out....scared the H*LL out of me...so no more!
(Too bad, because it DID exhaust nicely) -
how much faster is this going to get things going?? I see people using torches and weed burner torches, does it really get the egg hotter faster??
-
Well, you have the option of going bat-sh!+ crazy and opening it wide open. Yea, it's fast.

I have been using a weed burner since jan.
i heard it could crack it today thought i would ask all yall! thanks for the replies -
I like using mine over other methods. Not much sparking with Kroger and BGE lump. I open up the valve most of the way but do not hit the "Go Baby Go" switch when lighting lump. Works great on weeds too.
-
i've been using mine for years..... you're blastin the heat onto the charcoal... not the egg....rr
-
I've been using my weedburner for 2 years, and have never had any problems. If necessary, you can be up and running at 600+ degrees in 15 minutes.
Plus, it's kinda like a dinner bell for the kids and neighbors....they hear that "wooosh", and they know something's cookin'

I have a weed burner and found I prefer to use the BGE fire starter squares over the weed burner. With proper ventilation, the fire starter squares can have you to desired heat levels within 10 to 15 minutes. The weed burner is so forceful that flying sparks is a real issue. My weed burner has been reassigned to my trash burn barrel.
