I melted my gasket tonight and wondering whats the best one to replace it with? Rutland? Nomex? other? And it seems you should only replace the bottom and leave the top?

My large top gasket is fried and it still is good to cook on. A bit of a leak but it still holds steady. You'll get mixed responces.Molly

Jason,
I go with the Nomex on the base only when my originals bite the dust. -
Where you get yours? Freds? or can you get them in town somewhere?
-
Just call around to some dealers close to you and see.
Diamond Lake Hardware has it. They are in S. Mpls at Nicollet and Diamond Lake Rd. Mike is the head Egg guy. -
Ok- I will have to check them out. I was planning on going to the home show downtown. I need some seamless gutters. How do you know Jim S?

GO NECKID! No gasket = no gasket problems. If the dome and base are correctly aligined gaskets are USELESS!
-
nomex... use permatex high heat copper sealant.

I used the supper 77 glue and coated both sides, cured for several days and I'm still having the gasket falling off. I thought I was gonna waste money on a large can but have a feeling it will get used up

Our hunting and fishing circles overlap quite a bit.
I can hook you up with a gutter guy if you'd like. -
Put a gasket on the base only. Then you and gravity will get along nicely, and have a nice seal.

After scraping the old gasket off did you clean the ceramic surface with a solvent to get rid of any grease residue? Did you have a good coating of Super 77 before you put the gasket on? Did you wait for the Super 77 to get tacky before putting the gasket on?
