Drove to the office this morning in near whiteout conditions and sittin' here at the 'puter while the blizzard roars outside. All the orders are packed up, and thinking of heading home to where we haven't had electricity since Saturday morning. Yep, going on 5 days and no word on when we might get it back.
However, as bad as it sounds, our generator is roaring (burnt over 30 gallons of gas so far) and our gas fireplaces in the basement are keeping the temperature inside tolerable. Even got some egging in for the Superbowl with a couple slabs of ribs and some beans. Took some wild pictures of the eggs in the snow and will post once we get power back.
I am having a blast with all this craziness, but most people are not. Hope the weather is better in your neck of the woods.
Happy egging
Chris

Wow, good luck with all that. Sounds like you are better off than some.

I just thought of this - can generators be hooked to propane tanks (250/500 gal)?
I would worry about keeping that much gas around the house.
Luckey for us, in the central part of Texas maybe 2 days is the most of a power outage.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers. -
Keep warm Chris. Power outage is a bummer. :( Hope they restore it soon. Be careful for the other people out there when traveling. Tim

Wow five days without electricity is awfull! Glad you're hanging in there. I'm having a great time with all of this also. But I haven't lost power yet either It's gotta let up, I've got a golf trip to Myrtle Beach next week.

Tough to write that check to buy a generator, but when you need one it sure is nice to have.
Hope you guys thaw out up there real soon. -
Be careful driving in that crap Chris. I talked to Max this morning and he said the winds were 40 mph. -RP

Hah, just the opposite here Chris, we were out of heat at the office for 2 weeks and fine at home, talk about hating to come to work. 70 year old boiler finally shot craps on us. We burned through about 500 pounds of propane over the last couple of weeks to keep the place tolerable to work. New furnaces took a week to be delivered and then a week to install so two weeks with no heat at all except propane heaters. It got to 62 by the end of the day but trying to heat 4000 feet with a couple of heaters was tough, 14 foot ceilings didnt help at all either. Gas line issues and drainage problems kept the new furnaces from running overnight so it was hit and miss for the next week and down to about 50ish in the morning but the new furnaces heated it up quickly in the am. Finally have the two furnaces upstairs going, now working on the first floor and basement but we dont use those other than storage so its no big deal.
Hope things work out quickly for you, I feel your pain. Hope all is well otherwise.

I can understand why you went to work - without power you must not have gotten the email that non-essential people were to stay home :woohoo: :woohoo:
Stay safe and hopefully things will get better soon. -
Sorry to hear you have been without power for so long!
Glad you posted, though. It reminds me I need to order some more rubs!
Good luck! -
The weather is pretty topsy turvy man.... Our high was 45° and I took my pickup to the car wash over my lunch hour today. The real funny thing is, there are three ice fishing tournaments scheduled for later this month.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery

Yeah, still no power, and back in the office again. Thanks for the responses. All those packages I packed up yesterday are still here cuz the post offices are closed. It's a wild scene around this area right now.
Cheers

Just keeping two 5-gallon cans outside and taking many trips to the gas station.
Will definitely be doing some shopping for a generator that runs on our natural gas, and hooks right into our panel. I am not a big fan of throwing all that gasoline around either.
Cheers

Golf sound pretty good right now, Dave.

I bought one when we rebuilt out house after the fire. Awfully nice to have, but sure my neighbors are tired of listening to it, as we are!

I'm always careful ;-)
Thanks Randy!
Chris -
Wow, can I use that?? ;-)
-
Dang Troy. What an adventure!
Yeah, I really don't want to see our gas bill this month. The two gas fireplaces have been running in the basement since Saturday. Not exactly the most efficient way to heat a house.
Beers bro!
Chris -
I'd probably get crushed by a falling branch if I did that!

LOL!
