Do your friends cook?

Only one of my good local friends has an egg...all of the rest come to my house to eat!!!! Free-loaders! :woohoo:

We try and host as often as possible. Some ask me to bring the food or cook on their gassers.

Alas, you have hit on a sad thread. We are rarely asked out for a home cooked meal. Maybe an occasional crawfish boil or gumbo. It's usually to join the party at a restaurant or the meal was picked up and put out buffet style. Most cajuns love to cook but most of the cajun lore has them cooking game and meat dishes. Cajuns in reality are also great at greens, beans, sweet potatoes, and of course okra.

I love to cook and my bride is a great cook. She defers to me because she understands my passion. I'm wanting to agree with you that by-and-large the home cooked meal is an endangered species. I started cooking because I like to work with my hands and be creative.

Life's fast pace has relegated many to the consumer side of the plate rather than the creative side of the plate. Kudos to Mad Max and Spawn's Turducken Lasagne.

Aw, Sparky. That is so sad. I'll be you friend for a price.

My friend didn't even know he could acheive temperatures of 250* for low n' slows on his gasser 'til he asked me how to do butts. Now he's hooked and wants an Egg...of course.

Very few of my friends outside of the egg community cook much. Most of them prefer to dine out.

I have introduced at least a half dozen lucky families to egg ownership over the past several years. They always thank me.

That's MY kind of cookin' friends! If they all turned out perfectly, there wouldn't be any special ones.

Oh I know I couldn't get good results on gas, I've actually never cooked on a gas grill before.

I have some friends that are wonderful cooks and enjoy the process just as much as I do. My neighbors also have a BGE and we enjoy get-togethers with them as well. It's great when you can find friends that enjoy not only eating, but preparing the food.

I think I've helped sell 3 Eggs since getting mine last year. Hard to deny it's a huge improvement on gassers after folks taste what they eat off my Egg.

I definitely enjoy cooking more than most of the folks I know in person. A couple of my friends like to cook, and will talk food and/or Egging with me.

Most, though, view cooking as a chore to be avoided if possible. They're empty nesters who are glad they have the option not to cook. Many eat out frequently or buy a lot of convenience foods and premade things. They don't understand why I look forward to all sorts of culinary fun. They certainly wouldn't get excited about dry-aging their own beef (and photograph the progress), view making homemade flour tortillas as "calming and centering", search out farmstands and pasture eggs when on vacation, or wish they lived closer to you for some of that sourdough starter!

Of my nearest and dearest only one has an Egg, but she only likes to cook. Two others love to cook, and do pretty well with their gassers. The one who lives closest and I spend the most time with is an awful cook. When I go over she just hands me the plate to go out to the gasser, and many times, I bring stuff and take over her kitchen.

Its so fun to have everyone here while Lula Q is chugging away! I truly enjoy talking about the processes, ideas, shortcuts and flavors while waiting for something to come off the Egg. The sun and a cold one aren't too bad either! Did I mention we were above 0 for the last 24 hours? :laugh: :laugh:
