My gasket has fallen off!

The Egg from Oz

We purhased a large Big Green Egg about 6 months back, but only started cooking on it recently. Don't ask me why, but I have now seen the light!
After the first cook (slow cooked ribs) - I couldn't get enough and kept on going. It is everything I expected and we absolutely love it!
Unfortunately after our 3rd cook - the top gasket started coming off the egg on one side. During the fourth cook, the entire top gasket came off and the bottom has started coming loose also. I must say that I'm not impressed and I look to be a victim of failed glue.
Good news is that we are getting a replacement gasket from the store we purchased from. Given that the gasket just came off from the egg - cleaning should also be relatively easy!
Given these issues, I would like to purchase a spare nomex or get a Rutland gasket in case it happens again.
Living in Australia - I don't have any options and I'd be grateful if you could point me in the right direction as to where I could get one from (I hear that Ron may be able to assist with a Rutland).
Greetings from the land down under!

Here's my two cents: I wouldn't replace with the OEM felt gasket, been ther done that and they failed. Go straight to the Rutland. I'm using nomex on both of my eggs and they wick water inside the egg during rainy weather. Again my two cents.
Good luck! -

Oh, I remember now....that was that thing around the rim that was there when new... haven't see it or missed it for 3 years   :laugh:Kent Madison MS

Forget the gasket. They're worthless. The BGE works just fine without them.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

I only had mine about 2 weeks and my gasket came off to. I didnt know that could happen to me, but it did.
And then my Mom said I should maybee try to fix it but it didnt know how. I read on here that I can glue it maybe or I can complain but I don't like to complain because I think that is why my dad left and won't come around any more.
What is rutland gasket is it different from the one that broke on my egg.Dave Montgomery at Wheeling West Virgina -
If you bought it two weeks ago, call your dealer, they should fix it for you....Kent Madison MS

I prefer the gaskets to no gaskets but upgrade to the Nomex, Cotronics or a Rutland gasket. It is pretty simple to change the gaskets and will take little effort. Here is a link for a guide of how to.

It was good Mom liked it and said it was pretty good. She wouldn't even let me have any today she wanted it all for herself I guess.
Thanks

I have a nomex it has worked great. My original gaskes however lasted 5 or more years. I use the gasket to save lump, not really a problem cooking. A new gasket really puts the lump out fast and reduced usage.

Is there a need to change my gasket to the rubber gasket i see at stores?

Thanks for all the replies to date.
Anyone know where I could source a Cotronics, Rutland or Nomex gasket from? Also - what is the main difference between the Cotronics and Rutland gasket?
I'm in Australia - and not sure where to get them down here.
And if anyone happens to have any spare Cotronics lying about, let me know! -
Save the $.Just keep on cookin. If you have no gasket then it can't fall off.
