BGE in its new home
Dave in So Cal
Posts: 603
The Egg arrived in its new home last night. I took the good advice I received yesterday and took apart the egg. Since I purchased mine already assembled, I was a bit nervous. However, the band came off easily and I was able to get the whole thing reassembled in just a few minutes.
Everything looks good and this will be a real back saver.
Thanks to all who gave their advice about getting the egg settled in its new home.

Nice job! That will make your cookin' much easier.
Get eggin! -
Dave,
I'm excited for you. I was supposed to get another LBGE tomorrow but it's been been postponed for two weeks.
Yours looks very happy - what's your first cook going to be? -
Looks great!
We are still working out the plans for the table for our second large egg, so it's still sitting in the box in the garage.Egging on two larges + 36" Blackstone griddle -
Hey Dave,
Lookin' good! Go forth and egg up a storm.
Cheers, -
I have already been cooking on the egg. Now I won't have to sit or lay on the ground to adjust temps and clean the fire box.
I am thinking about some ribs this week end since we have some friends coming over.
Oh, one other thing, while I had the egg apart, the plate sitter was sitting on the ground with the legs up. My dog would not leave it alone. She pretty much gave it a thorough cleaning for me. -
I used the Naked Wiz plans as a starter but had to modify due to lumber sizes. Good luck with your table, and have fun with it.
-
That will be handy to have the BGE nested on a table
When I need my plate setter cleaned I'll have to remember your method.
Enjoy your new table. -
Thanks Kim. I really like all of your posts. You show a ton of creativity with your egging.
-
Thanks Jon.
-
Thanks Bill. I plan to use it often.

It looks very happy

Great looking table!!I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

We are also using naked whiz plans but working on modifying for lumber size too. Plus a couple other changes.Egging on two larges + 36" Blackstone griddle

Very nice looking table Dave.
Some day...

If you look at my top and shelf you can see I added a seventh plank. The dimensions work out just about right to do this if you are using sawn 1 x 4s for the top. The gaps between the planks on the top and the shelf are not exactly the same because the top has to hold the work surface, but they are close enought that you can't really see the difference.
If you are planning on putting a work surface, I recommend trying to find a granite place that will sell you remnants. I got my two pieces of granite cut to size for a total of $40. I found the granite remnants on Craigslist. The granite is really heavy and seems to make a nice sturdy, heat resistant base. -
I am very happy to get it done and out of the garage. My wife is happy about me finishing this so I can get on to other projects.
-
Thank you Michael.

Thanks Kent.

She looks really happy in her new home.

Eggcelent table - nice workmanship
Room for another egg Good planning
One thing is missing
Bottle opener
Maybe another thing - heavy duty towel rail on the end opposite the egg for moving the egg around - bolted with washers and nuts on the inside.
Very nice work. -
Looks good. What type of wood did you use?
-
I used clear redwood. It has a really nice color to it after 4 coats of spar urethane.
I also considered cedar but could not get clear cedar at my local lumber yard. Also, my understanding is that cedar splits easily. I had enough issues with this splitting that I am glad I did not get anything more fragile. -
Frank,
I will be keeping my eye out for a bottle opener and small receptical for caps.
I am trying to figure out the best way to attach a handle for easier pulling. I will get to that sometime soon. I also need a few assorted hooks for hanging tools.
I also made myself a wiggle stick out of some med. guage wire. It is sitting to the right next to the ash tool. It was very easy to bend the wire by placing it in my vice. It works much better than the hanger I was previously using. -
looks great
-
Thanks Michael.

Dave in So Cal, Looks real good! You did a fine job! Now you can stand while your cooking on your egg. I like the color. Best to ya. Tim
-
Thanks Tim. The color turned out nice. I used a semi-gloss urethane. It brought out the contrast in the redwood.
-
Looks great. the table makes cooking so much easier than the nest!

Dave - I tried to attach a photo but for some reason I couldn't. I bought a standard towel rail which is about 1-1/2" in diameter from Lowes. I didn't use the hardware that came with it which is simple screws. Instead I used small round head fasteners that were approximately 2-1/2" long, marked the hole locations, drilled holes through the 2x4 on the end, and then backed the fasteners with a washer and a nut.
My table is also redwood and the colors in the boards are mixed from a deep red to a blond. Nice - but it's a couple years old and I need to refinish. I used four coats of marine varnish the first time. It's always been exposed to the elements. I may have a cover made for it to protect the wood after I refinish.
